My dog's bug bite is swollen and bleeding. Can it wait until tomorrow?

Yikes! That is very inflamed and I agree that it looks swollen. I recommend to get an elizabethan collar for him and make sure he wears it tonight while you are asleep and any time you are not directly watching him. Licking it may make it worse. As long as Scooter will tolerate it, you can gently wash the area with soap and rinse it well. Applying a cool (not cold) compress may also bring some relief to him. Do this a few times through out the evening. You can apply a dab of coconut oil on the area and rub it in gently. Make sure Scooter does not lick this off as it may upset his tummy. Definitely keep his appointment tomorrow. Poor guy! I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

This definitely appears uncomfortable, and I can see that Diggory has been licking at it by the wet fur. As long as Diggory is acting normally, eating/drinking, and not vomiting; it is most likely okay to wait until tomorrow morning to have the area looked at by a vet. You can get him an E-collar or "cone" to keep him from bothering the area. I don't recommend putting a bandage on it, as Diggory is likely to rip it off and possibly eat it. This may be caused by an infection, allergic reaction, or even certain types of cancer. A vet will be able to prescribe antibiotics, medicated shampoos/ointments, and pain medication to keep Diggory comfortable until you get to your family vet. Hello, thank you for your question about Baxter. Based on your description and the photo provided I believe that Baxter can wait until Monday to be seen by a veterinarian. In the meantime I would try to prevent him from licking at the area and try to keep it as clean as possible. If you have one you can use an e-collar to prevent him from getting at the area. Alternatively you could cover his foot with a sock (if you use this method try to keep the sock clean and dry, it may need to be changed). Additionally when Baxter goes outside I would recommend covering his foot (especially if the ground is wet) to prevent dirt and debris from getting to the area. You can use a plastic shopping bag or a bootie for this purpose. I would recommend scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian on Monday so that they can examine the area and determine if it is infected/irritated and prescribe Baxter any medications that they feel are warranted. Ouch, poor Charlie! I do think having him seen by a vet tomorrow is the best idea. Unfortunately the picture is a little blurry, but the area does look red and possibly swollen. Poor Lucky! I'm glad to hear that his vet will be checking him out tomorrow. From the picture, the skin lesion looks most like a hot spot (aka acute moist dermatitis). If you have clippers on hand, you can try to carefully trip the hair over and around this skin lesion to allow for better air flow. You can also gently clean his skin with an antiseptic solution, such as diluted chlorhexidine or diluted betadine, but be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly. If Lucky is scratching at his neck, it would be best to put an e-collar (cone) on until his appointment. The vet may need to prescribe antibiotics, steroids, or topical sprays to help this lesion to heal. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

Ouch. The area does look quite swollen and possibly already infected. Depending on the spider that bit Rocco, he may need antibiotics, steroids and antihistamines to prevent the skin from being necrotic (dying off) and systemic bacteria (bacteria floating in the bloodstream which can be life threatening) from developing. i would suggest cleaning it with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water for tonight if a vet visit is just absolutely not possible. This will help provide some topical antiseptic cleansing of the wound. Take special care not to get any of this in his eyes. Then getting Rocco seen by a vet first thing in the morning to get this area looked at and treated appropriately. However if a vet visit tonight is possible, then getting him seen right away is best, before it gets any worse. I hope everything works out well for your pet Rocco. Best wishes and take care.

I see that this question was posted 1 day ago, but can't see the exact time, so it's possible you've already been to the vet! In general for skin issues, if it's not actively bleeding, not causing intense pain, and not rapidly worsening, and not accompanied by other issues (such as vomiting, extreme lethargy), then it can wait until the next day for evaluation.
