My dog has a broken leg and is shaking. Can I take her on walks?

I'm so sorry Annie is still shaking from pain! She may need additional pain medication. I would give her vet a call to let them know she is shaking. Truly rest her as much as possible so she can heal. Poor girl!

It's possible she has injured her back. many times there will not be any signs on a physical exam until the injury happens. Certainly an injury to the joints of the leg are also possible. I recommend to try to get her examined as soon as you can. A back injury can become chronic and serious in nature (just like humans). Be up front with the doctor about your cost concerns. Until you have her examined, she needs exercise restriction so NO running, jumping, going for walks, stairs or getting on the furniture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. With a broken bone, Biko should not be walking around at all. You need to keep him in a kennel to allow the leg the best chance to heal. He should also be in a splint, not a supportive wrap. He may need sedatives. I recommend to call the veterinarian and tell them what is happening. They can provide a splint as well as sedation for Biko. It will take 6 to 8 weeks for the bone to fully heal. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

You need to take your dog to a veterinarian who can reset the leg and then at least immobilize it so a) the swelling can go down, b) the pain is reduced c) discuss possible alternatives in repairing the leg, be it conservative treatment or surgery d) prescribe pain medicine until you have decided how to proceed.

He needs to be examined by a vet to determine the extent of the injury. Your vet can take an x-ray to help diagnose and then determine the best way to treat. He may need a splint, rest, and an anti-inflammatory to treat. It is impossible to know the best way to treat without an x-ray.

Shaking is usually a sign of pain, so it could be due to pain in his back leg or possibly due to a slipped disk. you will need to take Junior to the vet as he will surely need some pain killers at the very least.
