My dog ate too much Bravecto. What should I do? Induce vomiting?

Hello. If the Bravecto stayed down for at least 30 minutes, then it was probably fully absorbed. Also, if there was no evidence of the pill in the vomit, then I would not re-dose Toro. According to the Bravecto website: "In safety studies, BRAVECTO was tested in healthy dogs and puppies at up to 5 times the recommended dose at 8-week intervals for 3 treatments. Therefore, no adverse effects are expected if dogs are inadvertently treated twice with the recommended dose within 12 weeks." Toby should be ok.

Hello. It sounds like Charlie was given Capstar & Bravecto. However, if they were administered on the 28th, the Capstar was out of his system after 24 hours. Vomiting & loss of appetite are the 2 most common signs of the Bravecto, but it is still an extremely safe medication. So I am not sure we can blame it on the flea medications after this much time. If the vomiting has just started, withhold all food for at least 8-12 hours, & only allow small amounts of water, preferably as ice cubes. Restart food using 25% cooked chicken & 75% white rice when the vomiting has stopped. Give very small meals frequently rather than 1 or 2 big meals. If Charley seems comfortable, transition back to his regular diet after about 1 day or so. Simparica has a wide margin of safety, but Abby ingested 4 times her normal dose. You may see tremors or convulsions within the next 24 hours. These symptoms are typically self limiting and, in safety studies, resolved without treatment. Ideally, she should be examined at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection followed by administration of activated charcoal to further reduce absorption. This is most effective when done within an hour or two of ingestion. There is no antidote for sarolaner (the active ingredient in Simparica) overdose, so treatment is largely supportive and symptomatic until recovery is complete. This may include IV fluids and medications to control tremors or convulsions if they develop.

It sounds like Marley may be sick. Bravecto will kill ticks but if she is not feeling well, there is a high likelihood this medication will make her feel worse. We generally wait to give flea prevention to pets until they are feeling better. Additionally, you note that Marley only weighs 15 pounds but is a German Shepherd. This leads me to believe she is a puppy. Bravecto is not recommended in puppies as they will outgrow the weight range quickly. Instead you use a monthly product like Nexgard. I recommend to take her into your veterinarian today if possible. Depending on where you live, ticks can transmit many diseases and she may go on an antibiotic prophylactically. Drinking a lot of water can be a sign of a kidney or bladder infection as well. Large breed puppies however are prone to drink a lot of water and it’s not pathologic. These are different drugs and do not negatively interact, so it's OK to give the Bravecto, but it may be unnecessary. Sometimes owners will still see fleas and ticks on their dogs, but they are dead. I recommend checking to see if they are truly alive before giving the Bravecto. Bravecto may cause diarrhea in some dogs. If Gunner is behaving normally otherwise, withhold food for 24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte as log as he is not vomiting. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amounts. Feed this way until the stool is normal before transitioning solely to the regular diet. A bland diet is plain white rice mixed with one of the following: cottage cheese, ground turkey, ground beef (cooked/drained) or boiled boneless/skinless chicken breast. If the diarrhea does not stop or if Gunner develops other symptoms (lethargy, loss of appetite, vomiting, etc.), then have him seen by your veterinarian.
