My dog has watery diarrhea after Bravecto. What should I do?

Diarrhea can be a side effect of any antiparasitic medication. As long as Butter is behaving normally otherwise, you can manage it at home. Withhold food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet in small, frequent amount until symptoms resolve. Begin with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is normal then transition slowly to the regular diet. Symptoms to monitor for and that should be addressed by your veterinarian include lethargy, vomiting, persistent diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

That could happen after administration of Nexgard, even though is quite unusual and it is more likely to be dietary related. I would suggest to withhold food for the next 4 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

Poor Gus, Bugzy, and Charlie! You can see some vomiting as a side effect of a deworming treatment. Give them a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if that helps them. Feed it for a couple of days, and then slowly add back in their normal diet. If the vomiting continues on the bland diet, they stop eating, and/or become very lethargic, I would take them into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

It could be the Tablet (is it Bravecto by any chance?) i have seen it happening before. withhold food for 12 hours then offer him boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if he is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put him back gradually on his normal food. If he continues vomiting or is not eating, take him to the vet to get treatment.

Hello. It sounds like Charlie was given Capstar & Bravecto. However, if they were administered on the 28th, the Capstar was out of his system after 24 hours. Vomiting & loss of appetite are the 2 most common signs of the Bravecto, but it is still an extremely safe medication. So I am not sure we can blame it on the flea medications after this much time. If the vomiting has just started, withhold all food for at least 8-12 hours, & only allow small amounts of water, preferably as ice cubes. Restart food using 25% cooked chicken & 75% white rice when the vomiting has stopped. Give very small meals frequently rather than 1 or 2 big meals. If Charley seems comfortable, transition back to his regular diet after about 1 day or so. This may be a sequel to the medications given. I suggest you fast Maggie for 24 hours and then put the dog on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up problem, or if your dog gets lethargic, it needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.

If he is acting normal then you can withhold food for 12 hours and then offer him a small amount of a bland diet, like boiled chicken and white rice, and see how he does with that. You could also add a probiotic to his food. If the diarrhea continues, he starts vomiting, and/or becomes lethargic then he needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. He could have an infection, parasite, colitis, HGE, etc. and your vet can run lab-work to help diagnose and treat. Hope he feels better soon!
