Why does my dog have a blue ring around its eye and trouble opening?

Poor Bubba! From the picture, it looks like the ring may be the edge of his 3rd eyelid. If he is squinting and the third eye lid is further up than normal, he likely either has an infection, foreign object in his eye, or a corneal ulcer. I would have your vet take a look at it so they can determine the cause and get him started on something to help him feel better. Minnie should go to see the vet as soon as possible. I cannot diagnose her without seeing her in person, but based on your description and her photo I am very concerned she could have a condition called congenital hydrocephalus, which causes fluid buildup in the skull. Unfortunately medical treatment is often not curative and surgery may be needed. As I say, I cannot say that this is her problem for certain, but she needs an exam by a vet to determine if it could be the source of her abnormality.

It is very hard to make out the photo but I can see the blue, redness and discharge. You are right the dig needs to see a vet. There appears to be an infection going on and the blue colour either means oedema of the cornea which is the transparent eye layer at the front, or uveitis which is inflammation behind the cornea. I would suspect tgat the cornea may be damged which is very serious. Either way the dog needs a vet because at best this will require eye drops to heal but may need more extensive treatment. It is currently the owners responsibility so I would remind her of her obligation to keep the animal healthy and urge her to visit the vet.

It's hard to know without a more thorough history and a photo. That sounds she may have an infection or significant irritation. I recommend to have Missy examined by her veterinarian today if possible. Make sure she does not rub at the eye as this may make it worse. She may need to wear an elizabethan collar. Best of luck.

This is likely to be due to a corneal ulceration, possibly due the enrolling of the lower eyelid and its rubbing against the eye surface. The blue discoloration is due to the presence of inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye. The other signs seems to be related to the ulcer. I would recommend another check up to determine the underlying cause of it more specifically and give appropriate treatment. Serum and antibiotic eye drops will be needed.

It looks as though Mickey could possibly be dealing with a skin infection or skin mites. I would recommend you take him to your veterinarian for a workup of this to diagnose it appropriately so that the most effective treatment can be prescribed. Mickey will likely need to go on a course of oral antibiotics and a topical ointment to treat this if it is a skin infection and if it is skin mites (demodex) he would need to go on a course of a medication that kills the mites.
