Why is my dog's eye blue and does he seem blind? What should I do?

It is very hard to make out the photo but I can see the blue, redness and discharge. You are right the dig needs to see a vet. There appears to be an infection going on and the blue colour either means oedema of the cornea which is the transparent eye layer at the front, or uveitis which is inflammation behind the cornea. I would suspect tgat the cornea may be damged which is very serious. Either way the dog needs a vet because at best this will require eye drops to heal but may need more extensive treatment. It is currently the owners responsibility so I would remind her of her obligation to keep the animal healthy and urge her to visit the vet.

This is likely to be due to a corneal ulceration, possibly due the enrolling of the lower eyelid and its rubbing against the eye surface. The blue discoloration is due to the presence of inflammation in the anterior chamber of the eye. The other signs seems to be related to the ulcer. Cataracts normally appear as cloudiness of the pupil only - this is the black part of the eye in the center, inside the iris. So the surface of the eye should look normal, but the black part may look cloudy. What you are describing - a bluish "film" on the surface of the entire eye - sounds more like some type of problem affecting the cornea. This can be a sign of glaucoma, or some other problem such as corneal dystrophy. Cataracts can be treated surgically if this ends up being the problem, just as in humans. Glaucoma can be treated medically with eye drops in some cases, while other affected dogs may need surgery for this problem as well. I would recommend taking Siggy to the vet for an exam as soon as you are able to - your vet should be able to narrow down the possibilities based on the appearance of the eye, and can also do some testing if needed to make a definite diagnosis and see what can be done to treat the problem.

I would recommend that you have the vet check out that eye. It is very red and Minnie looks uncomfortable. I am not sure what could have caused it, but I am sure the vet can take a look and figure it out. They may need to use some tests to determine the cause so they can select an appropriate treatment.

I would recommend having Rubble’s eye examined by your vet right away - it sounds like the shampoo could have caused a corneal ulcer. The blue color could be from corneal edema. The vet might want to stain Rubble’s eye to look for an ulcer and can prescribe appropriate drops.

Hello. I am sorry for your concerns about Shiloh's eye. Any haze over the cornea or in the eye is a great concern, as it indicates there has been some trauma or there is some ongoing disease happening in the eye. It is very important that you have Shiloh seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible, not only to prevent further & permanent damage to the eye, but to make sure he is not in pain.
