My dog has bloody mucus in his poop. Should I go to the vet?

  Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that Ziggy has not been 100%. I do think that you should have him evaluated by your veterinarian again. The reason is that blood and mucus with diarrhea can occur in cases of colitis which usually improves with a medication called metronidazole that your veterinarian could prescribe. Also, your veterinarian could further look into a possible cause for this such as intestinal parasites. Good luck and have a good night. I am hoping for a speedy recovery!

  Hello and thank you for your questions about Kiwi.
  
  An increase in mucus generally indicates inflammation in the intestines. Inflammation can come from many things including bacterial shifts, giardia or a developing allergy.
  
  Since Kiwi seems clinically normal, you may try something like a bland diet for 3 days and a probiotic. A good probiotic is Purina FortiFlora. After 3 days, transition her back to her normal food over 2 days.
  
  A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain.
  
  If the mucus remains in the stool after 1 week, I recommend to have Kiwi checked by the veterinarian. If she gets worse at any point, I also recommend to have her checked out.
