My dog has bloody diarrhea and is straining. Can I wait for vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Maltese | Male | neutered | 13 years and 8 months old | 13 lbs

My dog is having bloody diarrhea he's on a new medication since he has an eye problem , the blood only comes out when he is trying really hard to go to the bathroom. Can I wait 5 more hours it's 3 am and the vet opens at 8am. It looks like picture below

Oh no poor guy. As long as he isn't lethargic, doesn't have pale gums or is otherwise stable, you can wait the 5 hrs to get him seen. He may be having a stress colitis, in which case antibiotics and probiotics along with a bland diet are the treatment recommendations. However the vet will want to examine him thoroughly so that he is treated appropriately. I hope Boone feels better soon. Best wishes and take care.
