My dog has bloody diarrhea and is leaking blood. Can I wait for vet?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | neutered | 100 lbs

My dog has diarrhea there's blood inside his poop he's drinking and eating but when he sitting still there is blood still coming on the floor my question is is he good for tomorrow so I can take him to my vet in the morning

Although he is acting normal now, that can change if he is having some sort of bleeding disorder. If there is a constant flow of blood that is oozing regardless of whether he is going potty or not, then that is a sign of a potentially serious clotting disorder. In this case it would be in his best interest to get him seen tonight if the oozing continues for more than 30mins to an hour. Blood loss is best dealt with early on, instead of waiting until the pets blood supply has depleted to dangerous levels.
However if the oozing is not abundant and doesn't seem to be continuous, Zeus may be ok to be seen first thing in the morning.

Poor Zeus! If he is is actively leaking blood, then he should see a vet immediately. He could have a foreign body that caused trauma to his GI tract leading to the bleeding, or he could have ruptured his anal sacs causing the bleeding. The bleeding could also be caused by a blood clotting disorder or toxins. It's not recommend to leave a dog with unexplained bleeding, and he should be seen by a vet right away to determine the cause of the bleeding so it can be stopped and treated.

Oh no poor guy. As long as he isn't lethargic, doesn't have pale gums or is otherwise stable, you can wait the 5 hrs to get him seen. He may be having a stress colitis, in which case antibiotics and probiotics along with a bland diet are the treatment recommendations. When blood is present, it can allow bacteria from the colon access to the blood stream. If he is still acting normal and drinking, you can likely wait until morning to have him seen. It indicates inflammation in the colon. Causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites (so bring fresh stool sample), viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion (ate something gross), HGE (hemorrhagic gastro-enteritis), pancreatitis, food allergy or intolerance, reaction to a new treat/food/table food. When should I see a vet for my dog's bloody diarrhea for a week?

Hello. If your dog is eating & drinking well, not lethargic, not showing signs of abdominal pain & not vomiting, this is not an emergency. But it probably would be a good idea to have him seen, or at least have a stool sample looked at early next week. If you could get an appointment to be seen today that would be great, but if Prince is otherwise feeling well, you can watch this for another day or so. Hope he is doing well soon. My dog is leaking from his rear at night. Is it an emergency?

If there is bloody diarrhea then I would take him to the ER clinic tonight. If it is diarrhea and he is otherwise acting fine still with no vomiting, then you can check on him through the night to make sure nothing is changing and have him checked in the morning. If there is vomiting or lethargy or he does not eat or drink then I would take him tonight also. You can always try boiled chicken and rice to help with digestion also as this is bland and easy to break down and can help with loose stool

If he’s otherwise normal you should be fine watching him tonight. He could have a ruptured anal abscess, or be passing a bone. He could also have a mass inside the rectum. My dog has bloody diarrhea from treats. When is it an emergency?

The diarrhea could be irritating Odin's GI tract, leading to the bleeding. The bland diet of chicken and rice is a good idea. Feed it in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, there is still blood in his feces on the bland diet, he starts vomiting food, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away.
