What causes bleeding spots on my dog's mouth and how to treat?

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It could be a bit of acne going on, but it could also be a staph infection from Alice putting her nose wherever dogs go. You could put a spot of triple antibiotic or Neosporin on the areas. If she licks it off, no harm. Do this at leas twice a day for a few days. If it does not seem to be healing, seems to be spreading, or continues to bleed, please have you veterinarian take a look. Take care.

This is probably a bacterial infection, in many cases this is due to the water bowl, you need to switch the water bowls to stainless steel bowls and you must change the water several times a day. the condition will need to be treated with an antibiotic course, you will need to take Alex to the vet ASAP in order to get it treated.

Those look like it may be a reaction to something he's come into cointact with. If you use plastic bowls, switch them out for glass, ceramic or stainless steel. If it clears up then plastic allergy is probably the culprit. If he's very itchy, rubbing his face, if he makes the spots start bleeding and/or if they spread, get him in to see your vet as soon as you can as this could be a symptom of a different problem.

This could indicate moist pyodermatitis, which is a bacterial infection of the skin. These can be very irritating and painful. Sometimes a medicated shampoo bath is effective however other times prescription straight medication is required from your veterinarian to clear up.

It could be caused by a bacterial infection, ringworm, demodex, allergic dermatitis, autoimmune disease, etc. Since it is bleeding, it would be a good idea to have your vet take a look at the lesions to determine the cause. Once diagnosed, your vet can prescribe medications to help treat the problem. They may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications depending on the cause.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Reoccurring skin infections could be several things including allergies to fleas, allergies to something in the environment, food allergy or endocrine disease. Secondary infections from yeast or bacteria are common. Each one of these problems is detected and addressed differently and I recommend to discuss with your veterinarian which one to start hunting down first. Parasites are often ruled out with an oral medication like Simparica. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein. Endocrine diseases are detected with blood work. Environmental allergies are a little more difficult to detect but a response to therapy or a blood test can give an indication. Once you figure out and address the underlying cause, the lesions should not come back. There are a couple things you can do at home and they can help but they may not address the underlying cause. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing his diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Also protect the area from trauma by having Sonny wear an elizabethan collar at all times.
