Bleeding spots on my dog's mouth: Is it acne? What should I do?

That appears to be a bacterial infection of the hair follicle around the mouth. Moisture around the mouth from eating and drinking can contribute. You could try a topical antibacterial wipe ( like an acne pad) after meals for the next few days. If that doesn't help you may need to see a veterinarian for oral antibiotics or other medications.

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Aurora is adorable! Even though these could represent cancerous nodules, it could likely be something like dog acne. The cause of this is usually exposure to perhaps a dirty water or food bowl so a good way to prevent exacerbation of this or to prevent it from happening is by making sure her water and food bowls are clean. Sometimes, this resolves on its own by keeping her food and water bowls clean. However, if it does not resolve on its own in the next week or so, have her evaluated by your veterinarian for therapy which may include steroids and a topical antibiotics and diagnostics if on further examination, it appears to be something other than simple acne. Please, take Prince to your local vets as he will likely need a cream / ointment with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory agent. These medications are prescription-only, so they must be prescribed by a vet.

You can buy online or at your local pet store chlorhexidine based pads which are an antimicrobial you can apply twice daily for a week. If no improvement, have him evaluated by your veterinarian at that time for further assessment and treatment as other possibilities include skin allergies or mange for instance. Good luck!

Based on the picture, I would suspect something infectious such as a virus or bacterial infection. It could be a severe case of acne but it is a different presentation than I've seen before. I would recommend having this looked at by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may need to be on an oral antibiotic and topical ointment to treat this. I hope this helps!

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. These bump are pustules, so yes, sort of like acne but it is really inflammation of the hair follicles. It can be the beginning of puppy strangles so still continue to look out for that. You have two options: 1. Do nothing and just monitor them and let their immune systems take care of it as long as they are otherwise fine. OR 2. You can use these medicated pads once daily on the affected areas until the issue is resolved.
