My dog has a bleeding lump 4 weeks after neutering. Is this normal?

Hello. That is a lot of bruising, but it just indicates that there was some subsurface capillary bleeding. This can occur in any surgery, but most often is the result of too much activity too soon after surgery. Try to confine Barklie a little more, by keeping him indoors & leash walking only for another week. If he is licking a lot, you may have to put an Elizabethan collar on him for a week or so so everything can heal. You can pick up the collars at most pet stores or even Tractor Supply if one is near you. It’s normal to have a bit of scrotal swelling in the first few days after the neuter, but 9 days later it would be unusual for this to appear, unless Willie has been more active than he should. If those lumps are small then I recommend keeping him quiet (no off leash play, and short leashes walks) for a few days and monitoring. If the lumps are large, noticeably growing, painful, draining, or bruised then I recommend rechecking with your vet to make sure he doesn’t need to start oral antibiotics or anti inflammatory medication. The patient becomes weak, pale and very lethargic. If he has any of these signs, then you need to seek emergency care right away. If he is eating, drinking and acting like himself, then it is more likely that he has some post-surgical swelling and bruising of the scrotum. The incision site itself appears to be healing well. I recommend following up with his veterinarian to ensure he does not require additional treatment. For example, some dogs that are too active will require mild sedatives to keep them quiet and allow their body to heal. I hope this information helps!

I'm wondering if your dog was neutered recently - it almost looks like there could be a scrotal incision and discharge in the center of the photo. Either way, the raised area looks like it could be a growth, tumor or abscess/infection and if he was not neutered recently the discharge is concerning. I would definitely recommend having your vet take a look.

It could be a hernia, but it is unlikely related to the surgery since we don't handle that area during a routine neuter. I would recommend having the vet check it again if it doesn't improve after the NSAIDs, or sooner if Roman seems painful or stops eating and drinking.

It is common for that area to swell after the neuter, but it should be almost healed after 10 days. If it's starting to bleed, then the wound must not have healed properly. The pimple-like thing may be a piece of suture or possibly some tissue from inside the incision site. The shelters are usually really good at making sure everything is OK before they are adopted and usually offer for free veterinary consultation a couple of weeks after adoption. I would call and ask for an appointment with the vet. It's possible that the wound may need to be sutured closed again or he needs some further treatment. For now, you can just keep the wound clean by flushing with warm water for five minutes twice a day. This will help keep it from getting infected. I hope that helps and Qausar gets better soon.
