My neutered dog has a new lump on his testicles. What could it be?

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 30 lbs

My 1 year old lab mix with pit. Grew this thing on his testicles I’m not sure what it is but it wasn’t there earlier I took a photo. He is also nudered not sure if it has something to do with that.

I'm wondering if your dog was neutered recently - it almost looks like there could be a scrotal incision and discharge in the center of the photo. Either way, the raised area looks like it could be a growth, tumor or abscess/infection and if he was not neutered recently the discharge is concerning. I would definitely recommend having your vet take a look.

That does appear to be in the scrotum yes. If he was neutered in the last 1-2 weeks, it could be filled with either serum or blood. This is not terribly concerning and I see it happen as a minor complication from neutering. If he was neutered before you got him as a puppy, it could be that he had only one descended teste and the other one has descended more recently. It could be an infection, trauma, or some other thing. Regardless, I would take him to your vet at your earliest convenience. He/she can give it a good feel and figure out what’s going on. This appears to be a skin infection of the scrotum. This is not uncommon to see in unneutered males, but can be somewhat difficult to treat. Without seeing the black lump, it's difficult to know what this is, but it's likley due to a scab and/or swelling. I definitely would not be scared of it affecting you, so it's OK to have him inside for the night.

I recommend cleaning the scrotum with a medicated wipe or shampoo (can get this at the pet store) once a day until the bumps/pus are gone. Avoid rubbing or squeezing the lesions, because this can cause more damage than good. If it seems to get worse, then you'll want to take Yoda into the vet for an exam.

My neutered dog has a soft, growing scrotal mass. Is it a fatty tumor?

This is probably just some scar tissue or a lipoma (a benign fatty tumor) but since it has recently popped up and seems to be growing I would recommend taking Tucker to the vet to have it checked. Your vet can do a fine needle aspirate and cytology. This is where, using a small needle, a sample of the cells are collected and then can be looked at under a microscope. My dog has a bleeding lump 4 weeks after neutering. Is this normal?

Unfortunately i cannot see the picture of it, which would be ideal to give you a specific answer, but I can guess that is a small herniation of muscle/subcutaneous tissue coming through surgical incision (which i guess is healed now) or the result of a chronic inflammation (possibly due to licking the area). In both cases a check up would be required to confirm clinical suspicons and treat appropriately. My dog was neutered, but his sac looks like testicles. Is it normal?

If his sac looks like it has testicles in it, this is most likely due to swelling from the surgery. This is called a scrotal hematoma, and is fairly common after a [neuter surgery](https://www.petcoach.co/article/benefits-of-neutering-castrating-male-dogs-puppies). The swelling can definitely look like testicles, but it's just fluid and blood clots from the procedure. It should resolve on its own within the next 7-10 days as long as you [keep him calm and quiet](https://www.petcoach.co/article/6-ways-to-rest-your-pet-after-surgery-or-injury) and prevent him from licking at the surgical site by using an [Elizabethan collar (e-collar)](https://www.petcoach.co/article/e-collars-for-cats-dogs-types-of-collars-and-diy-options/). The testicles themselves are removed during the neuter, so they're definitely not still there. If you have any concerns about how it looks, you can always have him rechecked next week with the vet who did his surgery to make sure everything is healing as expected.

What you may be seeing is the *bulbus glandis*. It is a normal part of the [male dog anatomy](https://www.petcoach.co/article/anatomy-and-function-of-the-reproductive-system-in-dogs). The *bulbus glandis* 'ties' a male and female dog together during mating. It doesn't mean his testicles have grown back, only that he is excited. It may also occur with an erection when a dog is overstimulated or happy. The swelling will go down as the dog calms.

My dog's testicles are black, big, and hanging low. Is it normal?

The picture does not show anything concerning but I would continue to monitor for any sweliing or discomfort which may indicate a painful infection or assymetry which can indicate a tumour. Rapid increase in size can occur with scrotal hernias which although rare are a surgical emergency.
