Why is my 9-week-old Jack Russell puppy's black fur fading to gray?

As long as the skin below is normal appearing (looks like it from the pictures, but can't be 100%), this would be a condition known as leukotrichia. The cause of this is a bit of a mystery, but the good news is that it is not harmful. I would want to check that the skin appears normal before saying for sure though. If Aspen is acting normally otherwise I would just continue to monitor her. Be sure she isn't licking herself because licking leaves saliva on the fur which can then change the color of the fur to a rust color. If she is licking then this can be a sign of allergies or other skin irritation. Look closely at her skin under the fur for any signs of redness/bumps/scratches. If she has any changes in her appetite, energy level, water intake, or bowel habits notify your veterinarian.

This may be a normal aging change for her. As puppies lose their puppy coats the adult fur can change color and the skin pigment can darken also. If the skin looks normal with no sores I wouldn't worry about it. If she is itchy that may cause changes in the skin color. A veterinary visit is indicated if you are seeing abnormal areas on the skin.

I wouldn't worry too much about the hair change unless it appears like he is loosing fur, the skin around the fur is red, inflamed, scabbing, or infected-you will want to see your veterinarian if that is the case.

Injury/insult to follicles, sun exposure and inappropriate nutrition can all result in pigment changes to the fur. I recommend to have Coulson examined by his veterinarian to look for injury/insult and to discuss his diet to make sure it is balanced and complete. Best of luck.

Allergies, metabolic disease, skin infection, hair coat thinning due to temperature change, etc. are all possibilities. I would recommend using a shampoo such as Douxo PS Calm shampoo. I would also recommend using Welactin Omega 3 fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. I hope this helps! If you could post any pictures of your dog skin changes that would be helpful. I doubt it is the dry food. Usually skin pigmentation changes are due to chronic irritation or inflammation such as with allergies or a past trauma which might be the cause for your dog's skin changes. Rarely we can see infections cause skin changes are you at autoimmune diseases.
