My dog bit someone. How do I handle rabies observation and quarantine?

Hi doctor I am in serious problem now my dog Pharoah bite my working men in house and I took him to the doctor but he said it was nothing but still I am confused because people are telling me that he has rabies now please can you tell me should I keep him in observation and what should I do when he is in observation??

Exposure to rabies, quarantine and standard operating procedures for handling canines that have potentially exposed humans can vary based on location. First and foremost, you need make sure the individual bitten by Pharaoh seek medical attention and explain they were exposed to a potentially non-vaccinated canine. This is crucial. Secondly, you need to contact a local veterinarian or health department to obtain guidelines on recommendations for rabies quarantine in Pakistan. In the meantime, please keep Pharaoh confined and do not allow him to interact with other pets or humans.

This is because of the Rabies virus which is fatal and can be transmitted to humans. a dog with rabies can only infect others once the virus has reached the brain and salivary gland, from this point on the dog will die within 10 days. the purpose of the quarantine is to make sure your dog survives the 10 days, if he doesn't then the people he has bitten need to have a series of vaccinations/serum against rabies in order to survive.

My dog bit vet, unvaccinated, quarantined. When can I get her back?

The problem here is that there is a suspicion that your dog could have rabies since she did not have her vaccines in time and bit the vet, This is why she is in quarantine. There are two ways to find out whether the dog is rabid: 1) quarantine for 10 to 15 days or to euthanize the dog and have the brain examined in a laboratory. SInce you went to the vet to have Princess euthanized anyway, I do not understand why they quarantined her and did not euthanize her and sent in the head. Unfortunately they will not give you the dog before quarantine is up.

I am sorry to hear about Danny. He should immediately go to your vet and they should be notified of what has happened. How his case is handled will depend on regulations in your country. In the United States he would immediately get a rabies booster and be placed in a 6 month quarantine at an approved facility. Rabies is fatal in all cases and can be transmitted to people so you do not want to take any chances in these cases and should follow all the recommendations of the authorities. If you were in contact with this dog or touched wounds from this dog you should also notify your own doctor to see if they recommend treatment for yourself based on your encounter.

Hello. If Bella received a proper vaccination from her veterinarian, then there is no need to worry at all about your sister getting rabies. If the vaccine was not properly administered by a licensed veterinarian, the Bella might be able to be quarantined as required by your local municipality. Here in the US, an unvaccinated dog is quarantined at a holding facility ( often a veterinary facility ) for 10 days. If no symptoms, then no need to worry. My unvaccinated stray dog bit me 10 days ago. Do I need rabies shots?

There is a usually a 10 day quarantine period after an animal breaks the skin of a person. If the animal has rabies in it's saliva - it show signs of rabies within 10 days. This doesn't not mean that the animal doesn't have rabies- just that it couldn't have transmitted it at the time of the bite. Rabies can have a long incubation period. Rabies should be taken very seriously because it is a fatal virus. I would recommend getting Tofy vaccinated as soon as possible. I would recommend consulting with a local veterinarian on what happened and have an exam done on Tofy. They can give you the necessary information. If a vaccinated dog bit me, what's my rabies risk of contracting it?

Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the dog is up to date on its rabies vaccinations, the chance of you contracting rabies is incredibly low. What we recommend is to quarantine the dog who bit you (or have the owner of the dog quarantine it) for 10 days and monitor the dog for the development of any abnormal neurologic signs. If the dog is completely normal after 10 days from the time you were bit, you are in the clear. If the dog becomes sick at all in that time frame, or if you become sick at all, I recommend contacting your doctor. I hope this is helpful - best of luck!
