My dog barks and makes weird sounds in sleep. Is he okay or in pain?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 9 months and 24 days old | 26 lbs

I’ve seen a new thing in my bongo . He lightly barks when in sleep or when he’s settling down at his area ( his sleeping section ). I know dogs dream but his dream sound is separate than this sound . As if it feels like he’s in pain during sleep . He’s active , didn’t throw up , does his poop and piss well . Eats well too . Anything I should be concerned about? I don’t know if I explained it well but he’s like eyes open in sleeping position and sudden burp kinda bark and then calm and repeat

Dream bahaviour patterns can be very varied and a wide range of sounds and movements can be considered as normal (as can open or blinking eyes). I recommend you video the episodes and ask your vet or vet nurse to review them if you are concerned
