Why is my dog yelping instead of barking but still eating and drinking?

It does sound from your description like something is bothering Casper's throat, but the only way to know what's wrong and make sure we're giving Casper the help he needs is to have a vet take a look. If there's an infection, he'll need antibiotics. If there's an injury or some other issue, it needs to be identified before he can be helped. So, I recommend you make an appointment for Casper to be examined by a vet as soon as possible. In the meantime, if mashed up puppy food is what he'll eat, then keep offering that to him several times a day. You can add some water to make it a slurry, both to make it easier for him to eat, and to help supplement with fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated. Hope this helps and he feels better soon!

It is difficult to say what the problem is without doing full clinical examination on Agua. However, it is quite common that the dogs' owners report that something 'doesn't feel right' in the throat but actually, it is normal anatomical structure. Throat area just can feel 'strange' in some dogs but there is nothing abormal there. Please, take Agua to your local vet for full clinical examination. If your vet is unsure (and for example he will suspect a mass in the throat, which sometimes happens), he will recommend examination of the throat under general anaesthesia and/or neck x-ray.

If you are concerned about something stuck in Doggo's throat, I would have him examined by your veterinarian to appropriately identify the cause of the symptoms. If you are unable to get to your vet right away, I would maybe offer soft food on the off chance this is irritation in the throat from something Doggo swallowed. Soft food would be much easier than hard food to swallow. An examination will help identify any obvious object lodged in the mouth or throat. It's hard to say, but if there is concern about something being stuck in the throat, I would have Bruno examined by a vet ASAP. Sometimes infections that cause kennel cough can cause these symptoms, but it is safer to rule out a possible foreign body or blockage first.

It’s possible he has pain in his neck. This can be from a compressed or calcified disc or an infection in the vertebra. I recommend to have him examined again by the veterinarian with deep palpation of the neck. He may need a radiograph as well. If a lesion is discovered, he will start medication and likely pain management. I hope this helps.

If only Milo could talk! This type of behavior could be related to something like anxiety or to pain/discomfort. I recommend to have him examined by the veterinarian who will check for evidence of pain on the physical exam. Many times this type of sudden pain is related to intervertebral disc disease, discospondylitis, upper abdominal pain or a pinched nerve. This could be due to a degeneration of the laryngeal nerve that is innervating the larynx being in charge of its movement (vocal chords included). Inflammation of this nerve and upper respiratory airways infection is possible as well. A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics may be needed.
