My dog ate a mouse. Should I be concerned if my dog ate a wild mouse?

With a dog Ace's size, the mouse likely will not cause any problems such as an intestinal obstruction. It may cause vomiting / diarrhea, but he will likely be fine as the bones will dissolve in the stomach. I would monitor for vomiting, lethargy, inappetance, etc. and have a veterinarian examine him should any of these symptoms arise. I hope this helps! Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Ziggy! Eating a mouse shouldn't be a big deal. Mice are intermediate hosts for some intestinal parasites and if the mouse died from eating rat/mouse poison it could be a problem. Since Ziggy is a big dog I doubt if the mouse died from eating rat poison he would be affected. As long as the vomiting and diarrhea are self limiting he should be ok. Hope this helps!

Make sure the ingested animal did not die from rodenticide. If so, it is possible your puppy will suffer secondary exposure and may require veterinary attention. If not, monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or lethargy. See your vet if you notice any of these signs.

Mice and other rodents can transmit disease and parasites. It is best to make sure Ember is up to date on all vaccinations and deworming, and to watch out for any signs of illness that could indicate a problem such as vomiting, diarrhea, etc. If you notice these symptoms or she isn't up to date, seeking care from your vet is best.

I would keep an eye on Abby for signs of any distress or illness such as vomiting, lethargy, diarrhea, etc which would warrant a trip to the ER vet. As mice can also carry parasites, scheduling a vet visit when you can and getting Abby up to date on dewormings, etc can help prevent future illness.

I would recommend Oscar be evaluated by a veterinarian; hat is a large number of times that he has vomited, and with him not feeling well, I would recommend he be seen. There is the possibility that he ate something in addition to the mouse; and if the mouse caused such GI upset, he may need some medications to get his GI system normalized. I would recommend he be evaluated by his veterinarian, have any necessary testing done (xrays, etc) and start any treatment that he may need. Good luck!

There are some diseases that can be transmitted from a mouse to a dog, but it's not that common. Dogs eat rodents and birds all the time and rarely have any problems. I would just make sure that she received a leptospirosis vaccine and that she gets a dewormed in the next month or two. Otherwise, she should be fine. If she shows any signs of illness, then it would be worth a visit to the vet, but it's not necessary to rush to the vet anytime soon. I hope that helps and all is well with Bella.
