My cat ate chocolate ice cream. Is it dangerous or will he be okay?

That was naughty of Nyx to eat the ice cream! I would first check the ingredients of the ice cream. If it doesn't contain a large amount of real chocolate or dark chocolate (as opposed to milk chocolate), there may not be enough chocolate in the ice cream to cause problems. If it does contain large amounts of chocolate or dark chocolate, rush her into a vet immediately. I would monitor her for signs of chocolate toxicity to be safe which include rapid and/or labored breathing, hyperactivity, rapid heart rate, tremors, seizures, vomiting, diarrhea, and general symptoms of illness like decreased appetite and/or lethargy. That was naughty of Kai to lick the cheesecake! Given his weight and that fact that he only ate a little bit of the frosting and one chocolate chip, he should be fine, and I would not be concerned :-)

It is very unlikely that it would cause any concern as the percent of cocoa in the whipped cream is likely very small, and ingesting a small volume, would result in a small amount of cocoa consumed. Hello, and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The main concern in chocolate is the cocoa itself, and there is very little cocoa in white chocolate. I don't see in your profile what type of pet you have, but if it's a dog or cat they will likely be fine. Watch for signs of GI upset, as that can happen with any kind of new food (especially with higher fat content) but I suspect they'll be fine. However, I would recommend sticking with healthier treats to share with your pet and keeping ice cream and chocolate for yourself :-) Hope this helps!

Hi there! A few crumbs of milk chocolate probably will not harm your cat. If she got a decent bit, she might have some diarrhea, but I highly doubt this will happen if it was only chocolate residue. Feel free to call your vet if you have concerns, but I think your kitty will be just fine! :)

A very small section shouldn't cause any problems, but keep an eye on her for the next 24 hours. If you see any concerning signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, increased heart rate, or restlessness, have her seen by a vet immediately.

The problem with chocolate milk is that it contains both chocolate and milk. Chocolate is toxic to cats, and milk causes GI upset because cats are lactose intolerant. Cali likely will be ok if she drank a very small amount, but you could see some vomiting and/or diarrhea. If you do see that, I recommend withholding food for 12-24 hours, then feeding a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet.
