My dog ate wandering jew plant and is lethargic. Is it toxic?

According to the ASPCA, the Wandering Jew is toxic to dogs, but you typically see a contact allergy from eating it, not vomiting. It's quite concerning that Nova may be vomiting blood, and it could be that she ate something else causing the vomiting and blood in her vomit. There can be a number of serious causes of blood in the vomit, such as perforation of the GI tract, eating something toxic, rat bait poisoning, or GI ulcers among other causes. I would take Nova into a vet immediately for medical treatment and to diagnose the cause of her vomiting with blood.

Yes, you should be worried. He could have eaten something poisonous or possibly ingested something that either irritated his stomach or is causing an obstruction. Please get him to your vet for an exam as soon as you can.

Yes, I would be concerned in that marijuana is toxic to dogs and it can lead to further symptoms such as incoordination, wobbliness, dilated pupils, excessive drooling, and seizures, tremors, and comas in extreme cases. It's rare that marijuana toxicity is fatal, but it can happen and not every animal reacts the same to the toxicity. Because of this, it's best that your dog is seen by a vet immediately for decontamination procedures. Please take him into an ER vet clinic if your regular vet is now closed; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. As long as he didn't actually ingest any part of the plant, he should be fine. Symptoms to watch for would include GI upset, drooling, abdominal pain, weakness/lethargy, tremors and abnormal heart rate/rhythm.

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Iris plants are mildly toxic to dogs, causing lethargy, vomiting, drooling and diarrhea. If he is acting normally now then it is likely that the toxin is out of his system. If you are sure that the plant was an Iris then it should be OK, however if you are unsure of which plant then I would recommend having Lou checked for his kidney function. Best of luck with Lou!

This is an emergency. If you suspect a pesticide you should call the pet poison control helpline. Otherwise, when I see older animals present this way through the ER I am very worried about abdominal bleeding from a tumor. I would not wait. He should be see by a vet ASAP.
