My dog ate trash, now drinking lots of water and peeing often. Why?

Raisins have the potential to cause kidney failure which causes the dog to act lethargic, not eat, maybe vomit and likely drink and urinate more. If your puppy isn’t doing any of those things I doubt the raisin has anything to do with it. He may have a urinary tract infection or crystals in his urine. I recommend making an appointment with your Vet for tomorrow and bring a irons sample. I good this helps and I wish you the best!

Hi and thanks for your post! The noodles may have been very salty (had a high sodium) content which may explain why she is drinking a lot of water and urinating a lot. If she is still exhibiting he same signs and has not improved in an hour or so, I'd take her into her emergency veterinarian. Asian noodles can often contain high amounts of salt which can be toxic to dogs. She may need IV fluids and electrolyte supplemention. If Bo is only exhibiting an increase in water intake and urination then you should be okay to wait to schedule an appointment on Monday to see his regular veterinarian. This can sometimes be due to the high environmental temperatures this time of year, but you can certainly see this with urinary tract disease/infections or with metabolic disorders (less likely since Bo is less than 1 year old). In the meantime, monitor Bo for the onset of lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance or decrease in appetite, or any more severe signs (seizure, pale mucous membranes, etc). If any of these signs are noted, then he should be examined by an emergency veterinarian immediately.

Drinking and urinating a lot can be due to a many different things. The more common problems are excess heat in environment, increased salt intake, liver disease, kidney disease, toxin ingestion (antifreeze is a common one) certain infections, diabetes and Cushing's disease. Without more information and being able to examine Tiddles, it's difficult to know what the cause is, but considering this could indicate a severe problem, it's best to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. It doesn't seem to be an emergency right now, but it's best to have him checked-out within the next 24 hours. The vet will be able to better assess his condition and recommend further testing if needed. It could be there was something in the water that has upset Bentley’s stomach, leading to the softer stools and drinking more water. I’d keep an eye on him for now. Hello. The accidents may definitely be tied to the inappropriate ingestion of garbage. Try to be more diligent securing garbage & placing things like cigarette butts out of his reach. At best, he may get a bit of GI upset, at worse, he may actually poison himself or wind up with a severe intestinal inflammation or blockage. Make sure he has easy access to appropriate chew toys like nylabones & Kong toys ( especially the ones you can hide treats in ). Invest in some puzzle toys & tire him out so he is less apt to wander the house looking for trouble to get into. Thank you for submitting your question Sophie. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian for blood and urine testing. The signs you have described are most common with diabetes. They can also be seen with kidney disease, liver problems or an adrenal gland disorder. I hope this information helps!
