My dog ate a lot of Trifexis and is vomiting. Should I worry?

Hi there. Trifexis has a very wide margin of safety (a dog could eat an entire box and not have any serious issues, in most cases), so it's unlikely that this will cause any problems. The most likely side effect would be vomiting or GI upset, in the first day or two after taking the meds. If she's acting normal so far, you probably won't see any issues at all. It's fine for her to continue with her normal daily routine as far as eating, exercising, etc.

There are numerous causes of vomiting such as dietary indiscretion, an infection, stress or something more serious such as eating a foreign object. This is a very common side effect of Trifexis, if you know for sure that he didn't throw up for the first 2 hours after you gave it to him, then you do not have to treat again. the side effect will last up to 24 hours. next time try to give it a quarter tablet at a time every 15 minutes with food, this can prevent this side effect. alternatively you can switch to a different product.

Six hours is sufficient time for Stella to digest the Trifexis. If you didn't see the pill in the vomitus, then she digested it. Typically, another dose is recommended only if vomiting occurs within 1 hour of administration.

Poor Ember! Vomiting and lethargy are both common side effects of Trifexis, and do not usually indicate any kind of serious problem. But, you could certainly opt to use a different flea and heartworm medication for her in the future to avoid this issue. For tonight, I would withhold food and leave her alone to rest since she doesn't feel well. So this medication contains a combination of Spinosad and Milbemycin. Milbemycin is used in dogs as a heartworm prevention, and can safely be given at two to four times the normal dose used for heartworm prevention. Spinosad is used for flea prevention, and it is a relatively safe drug. The most common side effects seen with its use include a decreased appetite, diarrhea, vomiting, and lethargy. Studies on research dogs showed no long term effects on dogs that were given ten times the recommended dose.
