My dog ate a small stone. Will it pass, and what signs should I watch for?

Hi. If Maggie just ate one small rock there shouldn't be much of a concern. Keep an eye on her eating and pooping habits but if all is normal it should pass. Be certain to watch and make sure this is not a common thing for her to do. Dogs that continuously eat rocks or eat a large number can become obstructed. If you notice Maggie having vomiting or trouble defecating then have her checked by a vet.

Hello. Stones can either pass through the system without too much of an issue, or they can cause a huge problem and require surgery to take out. Unfortunately you are at a waiting game. If Paddy is eating/drinking, and normal in energy, then just keep watching him and don't worry. If he is fine after a few days you are OK. If Paddy starts vomiting, stops eating, is weak, sore when you touch his abdomen, or is having trouble pooping or not passing any feces, they you need to get him to a vet ASAP for some x-rays and possible surgery. It is a good sign that there isn't gas building up behind the stone, which may indicate some gas is still able to pass through, however it is best that your vet continues to monitor as this may change as the stone moves through the intestines, or if it becomes lodged in a section of intestine. Whenever foreign objects like this are ingested, there is no guarantee that they will pass. The best advice is to monitor Honey for the next 24-48 hrs for any signs of an intestinal obstruction, which includes: excessive vomiting (food and water), lack of appetite, few to no feces, and severe lethargy. If seen, then its best to take Honey to your local vet for an x-ray of her belly and further care. Hopefully the rock was small enough to pass on its own. Hi! Cute puppy. If you arent sure diamond are a rock, I wouldn't worry. Hut what you would watch for is vomiting, diarrhea and decreased appetite. Depending on size of rock, most of them do pass. The symptoms of of gastrointestinal blockage include vomiting, lack of appetite, lethargy, lack of stools. If Pearl definitely ate the stones and has not passed them, an x-ray of the abdomen would be a good idea. It may happen that the stones are still sitting in the stomach but not causing any clinical symptoms. They may move down to the small intestines and form an abstraction at some point. Stones are very easy to detect on x-ray, so this would give definitive answer if there is anything to worry about or not. Pumpkin or any other laxative treatment / diet will not be a good idea for Pearl.
