My dog ate spoiled ground beef and mashed potatoes from trash. Is he okay?

Food poisoning type illnesses can occur following spoled food but generally healthy dogs may only show mild signs. I would recommend starting a probiotic and monitoring closely for any major intestinal signs requiring treatment

If she ate something toxic (like grapes or onions) or something that could cause an obstruction (like a chicken bone), then she could get sick. If she just stuck her nose in and didn't come in contact with anything, then she will be ok. I would watch for any change in behavior, vomiting or diarrhea and take her to a vet if noted. If Dexter develops stomach upset without any other symptoms, you can fast him then offer a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. If he becomes lethargic, stops eating or develops abdominal pain then he should be examined by your veterinarian.

Most often this is self limiting and a bland diet for the next 3-5 days should allow his GI tract to rest. You can offer a bland diet and observe him at home, if his vomiting continues or gets worse, he becomes more lethargic, or develops other signs such as diarrhea then he should be evaluated by his veterinarian. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Yuck! Well if Maxie ate any of it she will likely vomit. If she is acting fine I wouldn't worry. If she vomits fast her for 12 hours and start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day for 3-5 days. He will not be the first nor the last dog to eat a rotten carcass or meat. I wish you the best!
