My dog ate rotten meat with worms. What should I do if he gets sick?

Oh that's not good! I'd just watch Zoe for now. This meat could make her sick and give her symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, and lethargy. If you see any of those signs, have her seen by a vet. I don't think she can handle eating meat that's been sitting outside for a month, that's pretty rotten, but you never know!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am so sorry you saw this happen. Most likely Mocha will be fine. If the cat was rotten she may or may not vomit or have diarrhea. You can start feeding her a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice for good measure. Feed about 1 cup per 20lbs per day for 3-5 days. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Zelda may not get sick from the pork. If the meat wasn't rancid or spoiled then she could digest it with out any issue. Raw pork can contain food born pathogens like toxoplasma, but signs of that may not develop for months. There is nothing you can do for that in the short term. If she just ate it you could contact your Vet to discuss inducing vomiting to remove the raw pork. We are unable to provide instructions on inducing vomiting. Otherwise I would just watch her. If she shows signs of vomiting or diarrhea I would fast her for 12-24 hours and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken breast or hamburger and mix with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. I wish you the best!

Your dog will probably be ok, as dogs often eat stinky food they buried a long time before eating it. Watch your dog for vomiting and diarrhea and when this happens, take Russ off food for 12 hrs., then feed him some bland food such as boiled white rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in several small feeds over the day. The next day start replacing small portions of the rice mix with his regular food. Do this for about two days until all the rice and chicken is replaced with his regular food. If he still vomits or has diarrhea, you need to take him to your vet for treatment.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Eli! The fresh bone may be causing an upset tummy or even a blockage if a large piece was broken off. Also raw meat and bone can contain bacteria that can cause vomiting or diarrhea (like food poisoning). I would resume feeding the mutton and bone as previous, cooked. In the mean time stop the fresh mutton and feed her a bland diet of rice with boiled chicken or hamburger as small frequent meal for 3-5 days. Then resume her old diet. If she refuses to eat or continues to vomit then she should be seen by your Vet. Have a great day!

Hello. Raw foods are not always the safest diets to feed because of bacterial contamination, but if Boris is otherwise feeling well, then I would not panic. Normally, I recommend keeping a vomiting dog that acts well & drinking & holding down water, off food for 12-24 hours, & restart with a bland diet of 25% boiled chicken, 75% cooked white rice or a little low fat cottage cheese. But for now, just keep him off his regular food & give him just a very small amount in 12 hours. If he continues to vomit during this fasting period, or he becomes lethargic or develops diarrhea, then it is time to see the veterinarian. I hope he is feeling better soon.
