My dog ate screws, but has no symptoms. Should I be worried?

Vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, lethargy or abdominal pain. The screws should pass eventually but the possibility of internal damage or toxicity from the metal is possible. Feed a bulky diet for the next few days and monitor for their passing. Consider a visit to your vet for an exam and abdominal xrays to locate them.

If the screw is very small and your dog is pretty big (which I assume he is since he's a German Shepherd) it probably will not be a problem. Keep an eye on Bruno for any vomiting or diarrhea. If you notice these symptoms it would be wise to take him to a vet to have an x-ray performed and make sure the gut is ok. If he's acting normal and eating like normal just keep an eye on his poops to see if he passes the screw.

It may be serious but not necessarily. You should take your dog to your vet to take an x-ray to see where the needle is (it could got stuck in esophagus and it this case it should be removed). If the needle is in the stomach you will have to wait 24-48hrs for the needle to be passed. If in any doubts the second x-ray should be taken. If your dog develops signs of vomiting, vomiting blood, abdominal pain, lack of appetite he will need emergency surgery to remove the needle. However, most of the dogs will pass a needle and surgery is not required.

The risks of swallowing a nail include perforation of the intestinal tract, which is a life-threatening surgical emergency. They can also get iron toxicity, which can cause severe GI upset and liver damage. The best way to tell if Evy ate a nail would be to take her to a veterinarian for an x-ray of her abdomen. If you cannot bring her, please monitor her for signs of vomiting, decreased appetite, lethargy, abdominal pain, and have her seen by a veterinarian right away. This certainly could pose a risk for causing problems as it passes through the GI tract such as a puncture. If you are unable to get to a veterinarian, then I would recommend feeding bulky food items such as canned pumpkin and bread and see if this helps create a layer around the safety pin as it passes through the GI tract. Of course, my recommendation is to still get Chiku in to be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I would recommend endoscopic removal of the safety pin while it is in the stomach. If your dog was in another room and you have since vacuumed the area where you were working, then it is unlikely that he would have consumed anything. If he ate a staple, it has the potential to puncture his stomach or intestines. This would make Alex very sick. He would stop eating, become very lethargic and likely vomit.
