My dog ate plastic buttons and metal trim. Does he need a vet?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Hachi! He is so cute! If Hachi ate the one the black buttons on the bottom it could be stuck in his intestines. He is a small dog. The only way to know if it is stuck requiring surgery is to take him to the Emergency hospital for an exam and belly X-rays. If he has an obstruction, time is of the essence and he should have it removed as soon as possible, meaning today versus tomorrow. Other causes of vomiting are possible: parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food allergy or intolerance, etc. I hope this helps and I wish Hachi the best!!

As long as he is eating and drinking normally, I would not be concerned. If he begins to vomit or loses his appetite, then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at him and perform some diagnostic testing such as x-rays to help rule out a foreign body obstruction from the plastic. I would highly recommend you consider having her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. There is always the possibility that there is more frisbee in her stomach and/or intestinal tract. Toys such as these do have the potential for causing an intestinal obstruction. I would not take her into a vet now, but monitor her for the next 72 hours. If she continues to vomit, stops eating, starts having diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts throwing up water, or becomes very lethargic, those are signs of obstruction, and then I would take her into a vet right away.

Hello Joy, Unfortunately, there is no way for us to tell you if she will pass these parts with no problem. There are too many variables involved. Some dogs do pass these things and sometimes they get stuck in the GI tract somewhere. I suggest you have her to your vet for an exam. That is your best option. They can x-ray her and see if there are any abnormal items in her stomach. If you don't want to take her in now, then monitor her closely for: * not eating * vomiting * lethargy If any of those are noticed she needs to see a vet ASAP.
