My dog ate rising croissant dough. Is it dangerous? What to do?

Rigs should be ok, there isn't a ton of chocolate in a chocolate croissant. At most, you may see some GI upset. The biggest concern I'd have is pancreatitis from the fat in the croissant. If you see abdominal pain, vomiting, lethargy, or anorexia, have her see a vet immediately.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Ranger! That was naughty of him to get onto the counter and eat the biscuits. So there is a risk that these biscuits could cause bloat. If he ate them within the past two hours, I'd take him into a vet immediately to induce vomiting. If it's been longer than two hours, signs of bloat include drooling, anxiety, restlessness, pacing, trying to vomit but can't, and bloating of the abdomen. Should you see any of those signs, it is a medical emergency and you need to get him into a vet right away. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think Bubba will be fine as long as the rolls were cooked and it wasn't raw bread dough. I would skip dinner tonight and limit water to sips. Feed normally tomorrow. If he ate raw bread dough he would need to go to the emergency room. Good luck!

He could potentially have diarrhoea and vomiting episodes in the next hours. If there was chocolate in it a check up would be needed otherwise I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. I would fast him for 24 hours and let him digest the donuts he ate. He may develop dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, etc. If he begins to vomit and become lethargic, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatments recommendations can be made. Well that was naughty of him. Since there is no toxicity concern and this is a rather small item that has a good chance of passing I would not recommend inducing vomiting. Every time we induce vomiting we do put the pet at risk of aspiration. I would continue to monitor him for signs of any trouble which includes vomiting up food and water, lack of appetite, and lethargy. However if the wrapping was small as I presume for a muffin, he will likely pass this with no issues. If he does have an upset stomach but not signs of blockage as mentioned above, then a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese can be fed for a few days along with 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) To help settle his stomach. Naughty dog! I too have a counter surfer. ;) The biggest concern here would be possible pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) due to the high fat content. (the pancreas produces enzymes that help digest fat, and when the pancreas is overwhelmed it can cause pancreatitis). Generally symptoms include vomiting, inappetence, and abdominal pain. Its not LIKELY to cause pancreatitis if your dog doesn't have a history of this problem, but it is POSSIBLE. It will likely cause some loose stools. If you have an emergency hospital nearby, you could consider taking him there for them to induce vomiting, to try to minimize the chances of him developing pancreatitis. (If you are the "do everything I absolutely can to prevent a problem" type.) However, I don't think it is absolutely imperative that you do that....unless he has a history of pancreatitis in the past. It is reasonable to just monitor him at home, and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken and white rice for next day or two. Expect some loose stools, but if he starts to become lethargic and/or starts vomiting and/or is not wanting to eat, take him to your vet.
