My dog ate bread rolls. He's acting fine, what should I do next?

A small amount of plain bread should not be harmful. The risk comes if raw dough or bread containing raisins, garlic or onions is eaten. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

I would fast him for 24 hours and let him digest the donuts he ate. He may develop dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, etc. If he begins to vomit and become lethargic, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatments recommendations can be made. You should definitley monitor him for any abnormal signs like bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or abdominal discomfort. They might pass through with no problem but he could get some gastritis/enteritis from eating so many at once. Have him examined by a vet if you notice anything abnormal.

Thank you for contacting Pet Coach with your question about Ranger! That was naughty of him to get onto the counter and eat the biscuits. So there is a risk that these biscuits could cause bloat. If he ate them within the past two hours, I'd take him into a vet immediately to induce vomiting. If it's been longer than two hours, signs of bloat include drooling, anxiety, restlessness, pacing, trying to vomit but can't, and bloating of the abdomen. Should you see any of those signs, it is a medical emergency and you need to get him into a vet right away. Best of luck.

Bread is generally speaking ok, but can cause occasional diarrhoea. If that is the case, as a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

I am sorry for the late response. The website was experiencing a delay in posting questions. Croissant dough can potentially cause a foreign body blockage in the intestines. Since I see it has been more than the recommended time frame to induce vomiting (< 2 hrs), I would recommend monitoring Bubba for any signs of an obstruction, which includes: excessive vomiting (even water), lethargy, lack of appetite, and scant (few) feces). If you notice any of these symptoms then it is best to have him evaluated by your local veterinarian. You can take him on 20 minute brisk walks to help stimulate GI motility and feed him canned food for now. Hopefully he passes these with ease and only has mld GI symptoms (some vomiting or diarrhea). If you notice GI symptoms, then its best to give him a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days (in small amounts), and then slowly transitioning him back to his normal diet. The most that will likely happen is he may have some diarrhea. Just keep an eye on him and if he starts vomiting or has severe diarrhea then you should take him to your vet for an exam.
