Will rat poison affect my dog if he ate pellets 24 hours ago?

Regardless of the dose ingested, it is recommended to at the very least start then on vitamin k which can help tremendously if in fact Roxy got anywhere near her toxic dose. This is an inexpensive and easy to implement therapy. She is not at a point that any effects are expected as it is too early in the course for that. I recommend that you have Roxy evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They could check her out and treat her accordingly. Good luck and have a great day!

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bromethalin is the new rat poison that causes neurologic damage to the mice resulting in death. There is no antidote for this poison. Lethal dose depends on HOW much Rotty ate compared to his weight. You need to call Pet Poison Control ASAP. If he ate it yesterday it is already out of his stomach and inducing vomiting will not help he has already absorbed it. If you induced vomiting yesterday and he brought it up then that is a good thing, but still call Poison Control!. If it was dead or lethargic, or if there has been rat bait placed anywhere Camper could have gone, you need to see your vet first thing in the morning for Rat Poison antidote. Taken as a preventative, it should prevent any problems from occurring. Rat Poison is often FATAL in dogs if not treated and early treatment is very successful. So if there is ANY possibility, please see your vet. Otherwise, continue to monitor Camper. As long as he remains playful and energetic, with normal stool and no vomiting, you do not have much cause for concern. If any of that changes, its time to see your vet. Mila should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. This product is an anti-coagulant poison that inhibits normal blood clotting and leads to internal bleeding. Fortunately, there is an effective antidote (Vitamin K) but it's important to make sure you minimize the amount of poison Mila absorbs, and get her started on the antidote. Depending on the timing of the ingestion, your vet may make Mila vomit, and may give her something to minimize absorption, or they may recommend testing her current blood clotting ability. There are two things you can do: 1) nothing, just watch your dog for diarrhea and/or vomiting or paleness. If yoru dog vomits/gets diarrhea do the following: I would fast Bandit for 12 hours and then put her on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to her regular food slowly over a few days. Should he get lethargic, and/or pale (check his gums), he needs to be seen by a vet as the rat may have died of rodenticide. OR 2) if your dog ate the rat within the past 90 minutes, take him to a vet to have him regurgitate the rat with a medication called apomorphine.

Decon is a highly toxic rat bait that cause death through the disruption of calcium and phosphorus ratio by absorption of vitamin D. Even very small quantities are toxic as only a .1mg/kg dose is known to start producing toxic effects. Also troubling is that clinical signs are sometimes not present for days after the ingestion. As a result, I would highly recommend bring Luna to your local ER for 24-48 hours of IV fluid therapy, Activated Charcoal, and generalized GI support. The use of charcoal in many toxic exposures is useful in up to and further than 24 hours in some cases. I would also encourage you to open up an active case to the ASPCA poison control hot line and provide the case number to your veterinarian should you go this route. It is about 65 dollar but gives you and your vet access to a board certified veterinary toxicologist. Hope this makes sense.
