My dog ate a pork roll casing. Will he pass it safely or need a vet?

I highly doubt this will be harmful but it would really depend on the size of the dog. If this is a tiny dog (less than 10 pounds) then this could pose a risk for obstruction. In a larger dog, not likely. You may or may not see the casings come out in the stools but you should. It can take up to 30 hours to completely pass through the whole GI tract. I suggest you feed some high fiber foods for the next couple days to help "push" the casings through: bread, pasta, canned pumpkin, etc. work well. This should be in place of, or mixed in with, the regular diet. If the dog starts vomiting or having any problems defecating then you should get him/her to the vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Just monitor her over the next 24-48 hours for any vomiting, lethargy, not eating. If you notice any of those then take her to your vet for an exam.

Trick did eat a good size piece of vet wrap! Hopefully, it will pass through without problem, but I would monitor him to be safe for signs of obstruction just in case. These signs include vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, lethargy, and constipation. If you see any of those signs, I would take Trick into the vet right away. If he is a larger dog, it should pass without problem, but it's always good to observe him to be safe.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Zelda may not get sick from the pork. If the meat wasn't rancid or spoiled then she could digest it with out any issue. Raw pork can contain food born pathogens like toxoplasma, but signs of that may not develop for months. There is nothing you can do for that in the short term. If she just ate it you could contact your Vet to discuss inducing vomiting to remove the raw pork. We are unable to provide instructions on inducing vomiting. Otherwise I would just watch her. If she shows signs of vomiting or diarrhea I would fast her for 12-24 hours and feed a bland diet of boiled chicken breast or hamburger and mix with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. I wish you the best!

The wrapper itself will probably pass in within 24-48 hours. You will have to check the stool until it comes out. Monitor for signs of GI upset such as vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain.

Hello. I am so sorry that Aura bit you, I guess he really wanted the sauce packet. It the packet was the size of the ones you get at fast food places, then it should pass with no problems, rubber band & all. Just watch for any lethargy, vomiting or inappetence.
