My dog ate peppermint tea bags. Is it safe? What should I do?

He may develop stomach upset and/or diarrhea but otherwise he should be fine. Please, keep an eye for him for the next 48hrs. If he develops severe vomiting or diarrhea (which would be unlikely) please, get in touch with your local vet.

Peppermint candies aren't toxic to dogs but are known to cause intestinal upset, but if she is improving and continues to do so, I would recommend just keeping an eye on her and getting her to the vet if she does get sick. And be very vigilant about keeping things out of her reach she shouldn't have.

Tea that contains caffeine can be toxic if ingested, and the amount of caffeine is different in different types of tea (i.e. green vs. black). For a dog Teddy's size that equates to about 180 mg. The average bag of black tea contains about 40 mg of caffeine, so my guess is that Teddy is not at risk for toxicity. If you think the bag is larger or may contain more caffeine than black tea I would recommend contacting ASPCA poison control at 1-888-426-4435. If it was a typical size tea bag I doubt you would need to worry about the bag or string causing an obstruction, but you should still monitor for vomiting, decreased appetite or diarrhea over the next few days. If it happened in the last hour you could also consider taking him to an emergency veterinarian to have them induce vomiting.

These herbs are not considered toxic to dogs. Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. If he chewed them up, they will likely pass uneventfully in the next 24 hours. See your veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop.

It depends on the size of the dog and the amount she ate, but chances are good that, unless she ate several pounds of M&Ms, she will likely only end up with a sore belly and possibly diarrhea. If she ate them less than 1 hour ago, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than an hour and it will have already moved into the intestines. Ideally, your pet should be seen by your veterinarian to ensure that she will be okay. Your vet will do an exam and possibly bloodwork to determine if any further treatment is needed.

However, the possibility of a foreign body ingestion and obstruction is there as well. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for an obstruction and treat accordingly. At the very least, they can start anti-nausea and anti-diarrhea medications to make Sassy feel better. Check the ingredients. If one of them is xylitol, get your dog to the vet immediately. Xylitol tricks the dog's system into thinking they've gotten a big dose of sugar, so the pancreas pumps out extra insulin which will make the dog's blood glucose level drop dangerously.
