My dog ate coffee grounds or tea bag. Why is she vomiting and having diarrhea?

Vomiting and diarrhea can be caused by many conditions primarily gastrointestinal in nature such gastroenteritis and gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction or other conditions such as pancreatitis or kidney disease. I recommend that you have your pup evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Likely diagnostics to be performed include abdominal imaging and general bloodwork. You could try a bland diet composed mainly of boiled chicken and white rice which is easily digestible and can help with an upset stomach. Good luck and have a great day!

If she did not eat the plastic baggie then she should probably be fine. Her symptoms should be self-limiting (meaning they should resolve on their own in 24-36 hours). If she actually ingested the baggie then I would be a bit concerned that it is causing an obstruction. If she ate the baggie, I think a vet visit is in order. The diarrhea is not as concerning as the vomiting. I would recommend you hold her off food for 8 hours to give her GI tract a rest. If after 8 hours there is no more vomiting, then you can start feeding her. Small feedings of her regular diet every few hours for a couple days. You can also add in probiotic (one made for dogs, not humans). You can pick up a probiotic at your local Petco or any large pet store. Other than the probiotic do not give any medications. Sorry we weren't able to get to your question sooner. If Princess is still not feeling well, that is concerning. My biggest worry would be the possibility of an intestinal obstruction if there was a piece of the bag in there that did not pass through. If thats the case, you're going to have to see a vet--can't fix that at home. It is possible, though, that the bag just caused a pretty significant gastroenteritis (inflammation of the GI tract). Call your vet and ask about giving famotidine. This is an acid reducer that may help if she's still vomiting. Yes, any pet that has persistent signs especially vomiting and diarrhea should be evaluated immediately. Once dehydration and electrolyte imbalance develop, they will just continue to get weaker and weaker unless treated. Reasons for vomiting/diarrhea are many and range from intestinal problems or problems with other organs in the body causing the signs. Intestinal worms, dietary indiscretion (eating things she is not supposed to eat), dietary intolerance/sensitivity, a foreign body (especially in younger dogs), infection, inflammation, toxins, pancreatitis, kidney/liver problems, etc. Your vet can do a physical exam and some tests which could include a fecal exam, blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to try to determine what is causing the problem. Once a diagnosis is made they will advise a treatment plan to address the issue. Your vet can also address the itching of her muzzle and whining which may or may not be related. I hope this is just temporary and it resolves quickly for you and Moka.

I'm so sorry to hear that Boomer is sick! It is very concerning that Boomer is throwing up everything including water. The vomit being coffee colored makes me concerned about a GI ulcer or serious GI bleed. This can occur secondary to toxin ingestion, kidney failure, or overdoses of some medications. I strongly suggest you take Boomer to an emergency veterinarian so he can be examined and supportive care can be started. He will likely need blood work to determine what the underlying cause. Unfortunately without emergency care Boomer is at risk of becoming dehydrated and the illness worsening. You can try a bland meal of boiled chicken and rice however I don't think this will resolve the issue so I'd still encourage you to seek veterinary care for Boomer as soon as possible. The problem is that even a small piece of sausage can cause a dog problems because of the fat content. You are seeing that with the vomiting and diarrhea, and now bloody diarrhea. Because her symptoms have progressed to blood in her poop, it's time to see a vet. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies.
