My dog ate fruit teabags. Is it dangerous or will he be okay?

Plain peppermint tea will likely result in nothing more serious than some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting or diarrhea). If the tea has added caffeine though, Pepper should be seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. Vomiting can be induced via injection to getting he tea bags out of her system. Activated charcoal may be given afterwards to further reduce absorption.

Tea that contains caffeine can be toxic if ingested, and the amount of caffeine is different in different types of tea (i.e. green vs. black). For a dog Teddy's size that equates to about 180 mg. The average bag of black tea contains about 40 mg of caffeine, so my guess is that Teddy is not at risk for toxicity. If you think the bag is larger or may contain more caffeine than black tea I would recommend contacting ASPCA poison control at 1-888-426-4435. If it was a typical size tea bag I doubt you would need to worry about the bag or string causing an obstruction, but you should still monitor for vomiting, decreased appetite or diarrhea over the next few days. If it happened in the last hour you could also consider taking him to an emergency veterinarian to have them induce vomiting.

These herbs are not considered toxic to dogs. Monitor for vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. If he chewed them up, they will likely pass uneventfully in the next 24 hours. See your veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop.

I would expect that something like this would most likely pass through Gg’s gastrointestinal tract without a problem, however plastic can get stuck at any point. If you notice vomiting, diarrhea or a decreased appetite I’d recommend contacting your vet right away.

In most cases, a very small foreign object like this will pass through the GI tract with no problems - if this just happened, you can feed him a slice of bread to help add some bulk to his stomach contents, which should help to surround and cushion the staple as it moves through. To be safe, you should monitor him for the next several days for any signs of a problem. If he has repeated episodes of vomiting, begins acting lethargic, or doesn't want to eat, I would recommend taking him to the vet right away since it's possible that he might need surgery to remove the staple. As long as he is acting normal, I wouldn't worry - it will likely pass though without any problems sometime in the next 2-3 days.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I don’t see anything overtly dangerous in them, though the green tea could have a little caffeine. In general, it probably didn’t hurt Cocoa but it’s not the best choice for a treat. Stick to dog treats in the future- especially if you’re not sure what something is because there are few things that are very dangerous to dogs (xylitol, macadamia nuts to name a few). You should definitley monitor him for any abnormal signs like bloating, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or abdominal discomfort. They might pass through with no problem but he could get some gastritis/enteritis from eating so many at once. Have him examined by a vet if you notice anything abnormal.
