My dog ate peppermint Orbit gum. Will she be okay after hours?

Hi there. As long as they don't contain xylitol, she should be just fine. She might have a mild upset stomach for the next day or so if she isn't used to eating human food like this, but otherwise I would not expect to see any problems.

Yes this could be life threatening if the Extra was sugar free and contains xylitol. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and is fatal without treatment. Because I'm not sure if the Extra Oliver ate contain xylitol, and if you aren't sure either, the best thing to do is rush him into the vet immediately. Peppermint candies aren't toxic to dogs but are known to cause intestinal upset, but if she is improving and continues to do so, I would recommend just keeping an eye on her and getting her to the vet if she does get sick. The good news is that maltitol and sorbital are not toxic to dogs. Because it does not contain xylitol, she should be fine. You may see some stomach upset from eating the gum in the form of vomiting and diarrhea, and I will give you a home remedy to give to her if you see this. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. I hope this helps :-)
