My dog ate a pecan swirl pastry. What symptoms should I watch for?

Hello. There is nothing toxic in pecans that would harm a dog. At most, she may have an upset stomach for a day or so & may vomit or have diarrhea. If she feels like eating, you might want to feed her lightly with small meals ( about 1-2 tablespoons at a time ) of cooked ground turkey mixed with plain boiled white rice or low fat cottage cheese. I don’t blame Sammy - those sound delicious! :) He should be fine except for some minor GI upset. I would watch for restlessness, dilated pupils, panting excessively, muscle tremors and worst case scenario, seizures. If anything like that is noted, I would take him to the emergency clinic. If he gets an upset tummy, you can try to withhold his food for 24 hours then start feeding him small amounts of boiled chicken (no bones) and white rice to try and settle his tummy. If his GI upset isn’t improving, I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to get him started on some meds to make him feel better. I hope this helps!

If Louis develops GI upset, the fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts will typically resolve the issue. Transition slowly to his regular diet after symptoms abate. If they don't or if he develops lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain, have him examined by your veterinarian.

I agree that she should be fine. Main things I would look for are vomiting, diarrhea, not eating and lethargy. If you notice any of these or any other abnormal signs I would have your vet take a look at her. Your vet can do some bloodwork to ensure everything looks ok and give her fluids if needed. The problem with this ingestion is the fat content, which can cause pancreatitis. Watch for vomiting, abdominal pain, a hunched up appearance, lethargy, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. If you see any of these signs, take Pluto into a vet immediately.

If the Danish contained only cherries I think Sammie will be fine, if there were raisins though she should see the vet straight away to have sickness induced and medical treatment. As you said, it might cause diarrhoea or could cause pancreas inflammation.Watch out for any vomiting or lose feaces and changes in her demeanour. I have seen young Labradors eat far worse and be absolutely fine, but always best to monitor as they are all different !
