My dog ate a paper cupcake holder. Will it pass or should I worry?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. If Aubie is eating, drinking and energy level is good, then most likely the wrapper is not causing any problems. I would add canned pumpkin to her food (1/2 can in morning and at night) to see if that helps her defecate. If she is still not producing feces, is in pain when attempting to defecate or begins vomiting or show other symptoms, I would have your vet take a look at her. If it was paper, it should indeed pass on it's own. Monitor for lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. Have her examined by your veterinarian if any of these symptoms develop. Unfortunately, we can't tell you what to do, but neither option would be "wrong".

I would not be too concerned if Sunny seems otherwise OK. The cupcake liner is thin and non-toxic, so it should be able to pass through the gastrointestinal without problems. It should pass within the next week, so you can monitor the fecal pellets to be sure that it passed. If Sunny stops eating within the next week, then I would take her to the vet and mention the cupcake liner. I hope that helps and all is well with Sunny.

No need to worry! Licking the wrapper won't be enough chocolate to cause Hazel any problems. Even eating a bit of the wrapper is not a worry. This should dissolve in her stomach acid and pass without issue. You don't need to do anything. I hope this helps!

I'm wondering if Koby ate just the cupcake or the cupcake plus the wrapper or the wrapper alone. The wrapper alone likely won't cause him any problems, but if the cupcake was chocolate, it will. Please post again with more information so we can help you.

It depends! Some dogs will do fine, others won't. If there is a vet close, I would recommend inducing vomiting in a vet clinic because if it comes up, then there is nothing to worry about! If not, then watch closely over then next 1-2 weeks for signs of obstruction, including decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, etc.

Well that was naughty of him. Since there is no toxicity concern and this is a rather small item that has a good chance of passing I would not recommend inducing vomiting. Every time we induce vomiting we do put the pet at risk of aspiration. I would continue to monitor him for signs of any trouble which includes vomiting up food and water, lack of appetite, and lethargy. However if the wrapping was small as I presume for a muffin, he will likely pass this with no issues. If he does have an upset stomach but not signs of blockage as mentioned above, then a bland diet of boiled plain chicken and rice or cottage cheese can be fed for a few days along with 1-2 tsp of canned pumpkin (not the pie filling) To help settle his stomach.
