My 12lb dog ate onion powder. Is it safe or toxic for his size?

Onion toxicosis is consistently noted in animals that ingest more than 0.5% of their body weight in onions at one time. Garlic is 5 times more powerful than the onion. Considering the fact that the quantity is unknown I think the best course of action would be to take Taquito to your veterinarian to make him sick and give medication to reduce absorption of the toxics. More likely, pets may develop GI signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a decreased appetite. The amount of onion powder in the sauce is likely not enough to cause any severe side effects to Par. You can be more certain about this by calling the Animal Poison Control at (888) 426-4435 and giving them the information about the ingredients and the quantity Par ingested. Good question! Onions in larger quantities are toxic to dogs but Milo should be fine with that amount. This may result though in gastrointestinal upset. Watch your pup for symptoms consistent with gastrointestinal upset such as vomiting, inappetence and/or diarrhea.
