My dog ate a napkin. Should I worry if she's not vomiting?

An ordinary kitchen napkin should pass on its own if Ollie chewed up into bits. You may see some minor stomach upset. This can typically be managed at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, persistent vomiting or diarrhea, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or straining to defecate. These are symptoms that should be addressed by your veterinarian.

Not necessarily--most dogs do just fine with occasional forays into the trash! Watch for excessive vomiting that lasts longer than 1-2 hours, and be advised that Lucy might develop diarrhea at any time as well. No they should pass ok. I would feed them so the wrappers get through the intestinal tract with the food. If they start vomiting or won't eat or do not pass stool the I would take them right in for an exam and X-rays. As long as they are acting normally it's fine to watch them and wait. Oh no, that was naughty of Phoebe to eat the pad! I do not recommend inducing her to vomit at home with peroxide (H2O2). The reason is that H2O2 can and does cause severe esophagitis and gastritis, often worse than the initial problem, so it's always preferred to advise emergency care. Also, we have no way of knowing whether the dog is debilitated and has a greater chance of aspirating. The best thing to do is have her seen by an ER vet now to safely induce vomiting with a shot to get the pad out of her to prevent an obstruction. Otherwise, you can watch her for signs of obstruction with include vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, diarrhea, and/or constipation. If you see any of those signs, she will need to see a vet immediately.

Don't worry, this is unlikely to cause any issues. Most small pieces of plastic and cloth and other material pass just fine in the stool, if the puppy doesn't vomit it up first. If Snowball is vomiting over and over again tonight or tomorrow, or doesn't seem herself, then she should see a vet. Otherwise, she'll likely be just fine! Hope that helps!

Luckily sponges are soft and can be moved more easily in the intestines, but this is concerning for a possible gastrointestinal impaction. It's not toxic though, so if it passes, then they should not cause any problems. Signs of an impaction include vomiting, not defecating, and depression/pain.
