My dog ate trash and rotten food. Should I worry or call the vet?

If Lexus continues to vomit or starts to have diarrhea in the next 24-48 hours I would bring her in to see your veterinarian as she may benefit from anti-nausea medication, fluids, anti-diarrheal antibiotics and a prescription intestinal diet. If she continues to act normally with a normal activity level, normal frequent of stool and no vomiting/diarrhea, you are likely in the clear! Good luck!

It sounds as your pet is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking Lucy to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better.

Poor Bruno. Yes, I would be concerned, this trash visit could be causing his issues. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. If Maley is still acting ill, can't settle, or seems very painful or tender in her abdomen, I would be concerned about something such as pancreatitis or continued illness from getting into the trash. I would bring her into your vet or an ER clinic, especially if she is still showing signs of not feeling well, is painful, bloated, or experiencing a lot of discomfort.

if the dog is still active I would recommend to monitor her (watch for activity level, appetite, water intake, vomiting and diarrhea) and keep her without food for about 12 hours, then introduce bland diet such as boiled chicken breast and rice. BUT if the vomiting continues despite all of this, or your dog seems to be becoming more depressed or listless, or the dog not eating then call your veterinarian or a local emergency hospital.

Food poisoning type illnesses can occur following spoled food but generally healthy dogs may only show mild signs. I would recommend starting a probiotic and monitoring closely for any major intestinal signs requiring treatment
