My dog ate mulch and isn't eating much. Is this a vet emergency?

The concern I have is that he may have more mulch still in his system given that one piece has come out. I'd monitor him for now. If you still see blood in his poop or other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, a loss of appetite, or lethargy, take him into an ER vet right away. I hope this helps!

As long as Barney is eating and drinking normally, I wouldn't be too concerned about the mulch. You do need to watch him closely when he is outside to prevent eating any more mulch (or other things that puppies think might be a good idea to eat!). If he is less inclined to eat like normal, start vomiting, having diarrhea, or is straining to defecate, he needs to get checked out by a vet.

This is probably going to cause some problem, at the very least vomiting and constipation but it could also cause an intestinal blockage, i strongly recommend that you take him to the vet in order to have an xray done, this way the vet will be able to assess the situation and treat it accordingly.

If he ate a large piece of the cantaloupe rind without chewing I suppose it could cause an intestinal obstruction, but probably not quite so quickly. If his stomach seems distended, if he seems painful or if he is attempting to vomit without producing anything I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian right away. Otherwise I think you could monitor for the next couple of hours and take him in if he vomits again. I would not recommend inducing vomiting at home - hydrogen peroxide is typically what is used and it can cause significant damage to the stomach and intestines. Also, it might not be helpful to induce vomiting since he has already vomited once and not all of the rind up.

Hello, sorry to hear about Holly. It sounds like Holly may have some rubber bands stuck in her stomach that are causing an obstruction. She will need to be seen by a veterinarian and have x-rays taken. If confirmed that she has an obstruction, the most likely next step is that she will need surgery to remove these rubber bands. Holly must feel really sick since this has been going on for a week. Have her evaluated today to prevent any further damage to her GI tract. Rubber banks may cause intestines to become piled and this can lead to multiple complications. Do not offer her food until she is evaluated by your veterinarian. She may have an upset stomach, maybe she ate something she shouldn't have, swallowed something that is causing an obstruction, parasites, or an infection of some kind are possibilities. I recommend getting he seen by your vet, especially if she isn't feeling well. Your vet will do an exam, labwork and possibly x-rays. Based on these findings, they will be able to give you a better idea of what is going on and give you treatment options.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Milo. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian. It is worrisome that he vomited wood pieces. This can be irritating and/or damaging to the gastrointestinal tract. If he is not drinking normally, I worry that he will become dehydrated.
