My pug dog ate M&Ms and is bloated. When should I call the vet?

It depends on the size of the dog and the amount she ate, but chances are good that, unless she ate several pounds of M&Ms, she will likely only end up with a sore belly and possibly diarrhea. If she ate them less than 1 hour ago, you can induce vomiting by giving an oral dose of hydrogen peroxide, about 1 cc per pound. One tablespoon is about 5 cc. A turkey baster will work if you don't have a syringe. Longer than an hour and it will have already moved into the intestines. Ideally, your pet should be seen by your veterinarian to ensure that she will be okay. Your vet will do an exam and possibly bloodwork to determine if any further treatment is needed.

It could be the M&Ms have upset Tyson's stomach. I can give you a home remedy for him to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. For a 60 lb dog, Olive would need to eat More than 10oz of pure dark chocolate for there to be severe effects. That would be more than 6 servings of this product or about half the bag. Moderate side effects will be seen at 7 or more oz of dark chocolate. Olive will most likely experience some stomache upset mostly because of the mango. However, how likely she is to develop a severe reaction depends on the exact amount of chocolate ingested which varies per package. Having said that, it would be indicated to have Tika evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible to check the amount of chocolate ingested but also to check Tika for manifestations of chocolate toxicity and treat accordingly. Chocolate toxicity can result in gastrointestinal signs, heart issues and even neurological signs such as seizures. Since last night was Halloween, think about if there's anything she could have eaten that she shouldn't have and take her to the vet ASAP if you realize your chocolate stash or your entire pan of bacon wrapped something or anothers from the potluck is missing. If you can't think of anything she ate, it's generally ok to wait 24 hours to see if she get back on her food naturally. Sometimes something goes wrong in the gut and we don't know why but it resolves quickly. If she's not back to normal in 24 hours, or has any vomiting or diarrhea in the mean time, she needs to go to her vet for evaluation and supportive care.
