My dog ate many treats and paper. What are the risks to her health?

I would suggest not feeding her for about 8 hours after she ate the treats, then start feeding her small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and plain white rice. This is an easy to digest meal that will help clear her digestive tract. If she has persistent vomiting or diarrhea for 12 hours, then she will need to visit the vet, in the off chance that the treats have caused an obstruction in her intestines. If he hasn't vomited by now, he likely won't vomit at all. He may also become constipated from all the treats, so if he hasn't pooped in more than 12 hours, try adding some plain canned pumpkin (**NOT pumpkin pie filling**) to his food and increase exercise. Both may stimulate defecation. Make sure he has plenty of fresh water as well. If he doesn't defecate for more than 24 hours, have him physically examined by your veterinarian.

If she did not eat the plastic baggie then she should probably be fine. Her symptoms should be self-limiting (meaning they should resolve on their own in 24-36 hours). If she actually ingested the baggie then I would be a bit concerned that it is causing an obstruction. If she ate the baggie, I think a vet visit is in order. The diarrhea is not as concerning as the vomiting. I would recommend you hold her off food for 8 hours to give her GI tract a rest. If after 8 hours there is no more vomiting, then you can start feeding her. Small feedings of her regular diet every few hours for a couple days. You can also add in probiotic (one made for dogs, not humans). You can pick up a probiotic at your local Petco or any large pet store. Other than the probiotic do not give any medications. If she is bright and alert and willing to eat i recommend feeding small, bland low fat meals and offering pedialyte and also fresh water to reduce the risk of developing dehydration. If she is restless and reluctant to eat she should be assessed by a vet. Obstructions, impactions and pancreatitis are all relatively common after breaking into the treat jar!

I do not think her health is at risk unless she is becoming over weight due to the numerous treats. If her poor is loose or runny or hard pellets, then I would also be concerned that there is another reason for her increase urgency to poop. If any of those are of concern then I would have their vet take a look at him. The vet will be able to do a fecal sample to ensure everything is normal. I hope this helps.

I think the worst that will happen is some mild GI upset like vomiting and/or diarrhea - both of which should be self-limiting (meaning they should go away on their own within 48 hours). If they don't, then he needs to see a vet. He may be more tired than normal but not comatose so if he is sleeping and you can't get a reaction out of him then you need to get him to a vet ASAP. I recommend no food for 8-12 hours but be sure he has plenty of water available. These treats don't really contain anything toxic at large doses but remember, every dog reacts differently to medications/supplements just like people so if, at any time, you are worried about him you need to have him examined by a vet.
