My dog ate a kiwi peel. Is it safe? What should I do right now?

Oh, dear! With peach pits, there are two main concerns: if it was chewed up quite a bit before swallowing, there is a chance of a toxicity issue since peach pits do contain small amounts of cyanide. If he swallowed it whole, it's very likely to cause an intestinal obstruction as it moves through his GI tract, which would require surgery. If he just ate it, I would recommend having him seen by a vet right away - he/she can give an injection to safely induce vomiting so that, hopefully, he will throw it up and you won't need to worry.

Bananas are ok for dogs to eat, not sure the banana peel will be easy to digest though. Keep an eye on Jax to make sure he doesn't stop eating or develop a stomach ache. Jax should be fine if he chewed up the banana peel, if not he could develop an intestinal obstruction. As long as he's eating, drinking and pooping normally there is nothing to be worried about. If he should start vomiting, not eating or straining to poop then please take him in right away for an exam and X-ray. If he ate a large piece of the cantaloupe rind without chewing I suppose it could cause an intestinal obstruction, but probably not quite so quickly. If his stomach seems distended, if he seems painful or if he is attempting to vomit without producing anything I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian right away. Otherwise I think you could monitor for the next couple of hours and take him in if he vomits again. I would not recommend inducing vomiting at home - hydrogen peroxide is typically what is used and it can cause significant damage to the stomach and intestines. Also, it might not be helpful to induce vomiting since he has already vomited once and not all of the rind up.

At worst, you may see some mild stomach upset (vomiting or diarrhea). This can typically be managed at home with a short fast followed by a bland diet fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve.

No, avocado does contain a toxin (persin) but it is not of concern in dogs. It is in other species. The biggest problem we see from avocados is obstruction due to ingestion of seed. Just monitor for vomiting or diarrhea. Follow up with your vet if your pet develops vomiting or diarrhea.

The poisonous part of the pits are contained in the inner kernel so unless the pit is cracked open and the kernel missing, im not worried about that. That gnawing probably resulted in only tiny bits -if any- of the pit being swallowed. A dog this size is unlikely to have problems with that. Of course he may have a sensitive stomach or have gotten into something else in the trash that would cause a problem. If you see more than 3 episode of vomiting, severe lethargy, or loss of appetite lasting more than 8 hours, see an emergency vet to make sure he’s ok. Best of luck to you and Huxley!
