My dog ate hydromorphone. Is it toxic? What should I do immediately?

Any treatment now will be purely supportive. Monitor for vomiting, jaundice, lethargy, increased respiration and anemia. Liver and kidney function should be checked via blood test to rule out damage from the dose of acetaminophen ingested. Further supportive care may be indicated if liver/kidney function is compromised. This may include IV fluids and blood transfusions if indicated.

Dogs tend to tolerate opioids fairly well and this probably wasn’t a dose that is high enough to cause concern. If Zeus ate the tablet in the last hour I’d recommend seeing an emergency vet for them to induce vomiting and hopefully recover part of the tablet. If it has been longer than that you could monitor at home, but if you notice that Zeus is becoming sedate to the point that you cannot get him to stand up you should head to a vet. If the tablet had any other medications (like acetominophen) then there might be other concerns - repost your question and specify how much.

This is a diuretic that is occasionally used in dogs. The dose ingested is about half of the lower range of the dose used in dogs. If she ate it, you will likely see very little side effects, maybe some m stomach upset or an increase in thirst or urination for the next 24-36 hours.

Unfortunately some dogs do seem to be disoriented from hydromorphone and similar medications. Usually dilaudid only lasts for about 6 hours, but there can be individual variation. If it does not specify that the medication needs to be given with food you could place in as far back in her mouth as you can and then hold her mouth shut until she swallows. I would expect her appetite to be normal tomorrow morning but wouldn't worry too much if she skips a meal tonight as long as she doesn't have any other health problems.

She may be a bit sleepy but otherwise she should have no ill effects. A dose of oxycodone for a dog her size is up to 10mg and she only ingested 5mg. I would not worry about this at all. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

The hydroxyzine is an approved medication in dogs and his normal dose would be 50 mg twice a day. You are unlikely to notice any side effects from that tablet. However cymbalta is not used in dogs but his toxic dose for his weight is around 300-400 mg. The side effects of that medication include vomiting, disorientation, lethargy and tremors. If it has been under an hour you can induce vomiting and see if he throws anything up so it won't be absorbed. If it is longer than hour you can watch for those symptoms.
