My dog ate human food. Is it safe? What should I do if she gets sick?

This is not uncommon following new and rich foods and generally will settle down within 3-5days. A probiotic/fiber supplement such as fortiflora alongside a bland diet may help rebalance the gut and monitor closely for any persistent vomiting which may indicate the need for a vet visit and additional treatment

Maxi can get pancreatitis from this or diarrhea and vomiting. I would recommend giving her a bland diet (boiled chicken and white rice) just to calm everything down and then monitor her. If she starts vomiting, diarrhea, not eating, becomes lethargic then I recommend bringing her to a veterinarian. Your dog will probably be ok, as dogs often eat stinky food they buried a long time before eating it. Watch your dog for vomiting and diarrhea and when this happens, take Russ off food for 12 hrs., then feed him some bland food such as boiled white rice with boiled boneless white chicken meat in several small feeds over the day. The next day start replacing small portions of the rice mix with his regular food. Do this for about two days until all the rice and chicken is replaced with his regular food. If he still vomits or has diarrhea, you need to take him to your vet for treatment.

Brave girl! She may develop some vomiting and or diarrhea, as this food may cause some irritation to her GI tract. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in Luna's normal diet. If she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Stop giving her food like carne burritos and bologna. They are not healthy for her and cause GI upset. She doesn't need bread either.

It is possible she's developed an aversion to her regular food due to the recent sickness you've described. I am unsure if her food made her sick or not but I would make sure there are no recent reports of illness or recalls associated with this food. I recommend feeding a bland, easy to digest food such as homemade, boiled chicken breast mixed with white rice. If she eats this well with no vomiting or diarrhea for a couple days, you can gradually mix in her old food to reintroduce it or try a different type of dog food.

I suppose it's possible but I am concerned there is something else going on. Unhealthy human food can cause pancreatitis. Pancreatitis can lead to liver damage, peritonitis and multi-organ failure. Queen could also have a partial intestinal blockage or have kidney damage. Because she has abnormal for 1-2 weeks now, I recommend to have her examined as soon as she can be. She will need some bloodwork and she may need a radiograph. I recommend to go ahead and start a bland diet now. a bland diet is not likely to fix her problem but it won't hurt. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. Encourage her to drink water and keep her activity minimal so she is resting. Make sure to bring in a stool sample as well because parasites can also cause prolonged GI issues.
