Dachshund ate ham bone, backward sneezing & gulping. Is she choking?

I'm wondering if the deep breathing you are seeing is a reverse sneeze, which can be caused by irritation to the nasal passages and throat. I have a link to a video of a reverse sneeze below. If you think this is the case I think it would be okay to monitor Peaches during the day. If she vomits again, does not want to eat, or has diarrhea I'd recommend seeing the vet. He could indeed have something stuck in his throat I strongly recommend getting him in to see your vet immediately. It sounds like he's trying to move whatever is stuck and not having much success. He needs to be seen before he hurts himself.

No worries. It sounds like Danny most likely had a tickling of his throat caused by the noodle. It may have gotten lodged in the back of his throat momentarily, but if you checked back there then it is likely freed up now and no longer a problem. The back and forth movements he was making sounds like a reverse sneeze and is harmless to him. Look at a YouTube video or other pets doing reverse sneezing to verify this what you saw Danny do. Offer him some water and just monitor him for the rest of the day. He should be fine from here on out. You cannot cause throat cancer by sticking your fingers in his throat, and injury to his throat is hard to do by your fingers alone. Now if he starts to by chance start vomiting or not eating, then he may have something else going on there and would require a vet visit to sort things out. However I expect him to recover well on his own.

If Zoey was able to swallow the food and water, I don't think the pork chop bone would be stuck in her throat. It could be upsetting her stomach. Keep a close eye on her, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, have her seen by a vet. Take her into a vet immediately if she starts vomiting, there is blood in her vomit, blood in her feces, she has diarrhea, stops eating, or becomes lethargic. I hope this helps!

It sounds like she likely has some damage to her throat/esophagus from the bone. This sounds minor and will likely heal quickly, but I would have to examine her to know for sure. For now, it's fine to wait and feed soft food for the next couple of days. You can soften dry food by just adding a little water and waiting a couple of minutes.
