My dog ate grease from the grill. Is it dangerous? What to do?

If symptoms are mild, you may be able to [manage her at home](https://www.petcoach.co/article/how-to-treat-your-dogs-upset-stomach) by withholding food for 12-24 hours. Allow small amounts of water or unflavored PediaLyte. Resume feeding a bland diet (1:1 ratio of plain boiled boneless chicken and plain white rice). Feed in small, frequent amounts waiting at least one hour between feedings. If the vomiting stops, continue feeding until the stool is normal. Transition slowly to the regular diet. If the vomiting or diarrhea persist for more than 24 hours, see your veterinarian. She may also be at risk of [pancreatitis](https://www.petcoach.co/dog/condition/canine-pancreatitis) which can be quite serious. Symptoms may include lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. These symptoms should be addressed by your veterinarian immediately.

If she isn't vomiting and she just had diarrhea yesterday Iw ould say it is ok to wait until morning. If she starts vomiting, becomes lethargic or has bloody diarrhea overnight then I would recommend taking Goldie to an emergency veterinarian. More than likely, Max will be fine. The paper towel should pass through him, and I would monitor his poop to see if it comes out. There is a chance the grease from the fried chicken could cause some problems, such as pancreatitis or GI upset. If Max begins vomiting, especially undigested food, that is a symptom of pancreatitis, and he will need to be taken into a vet right away. I would monitor him for vomiting, not eating, lethargy, diarrhea, vomiting water, and not drinking water. If you see any of those signs, take him into your vet immediately.

A little frying oil may not have any effects on Diesel. If he ingested more than a little or if his tummy is sensitive, it may cause diarrhea or vomiting. You can counteract this potential side effect by feeding him a diet of boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice for 24 hours. Monitor Diesel closely for any signs of severe GI upset as he should see the his veterinarian if this is seen. Lastly, it the oil was very hot or contained pieces of onion or garlic, I recommend for him to see his veterinarian to make sure there’s no injury and to discuss toxicity that can result from eating those vegetables. Since he is so young, consider having him seen by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. The reason being vomiting can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances which are serious, but can be more serious in puppies. Your vet may dispense or administer medication to control vomiting. A bland diet can be fed in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. It sounds highly likely that she could have pancreatitis - happens very often after they have ingested something fatty like grease. Pancreatitis can be life threatening and the longer you wait to seek treatment for her the more damage will be done to the pancreas.
