My dog ate a lot of bagels. What should I do now? Is he safe?

Hi, as long as the bagels were pure and did not contain any raisins or any other potentially toxic ingredients, I would not worry about it if she is resting. Let her rest today and take her for just short walks little and often, and monitor for any vomiting and diarrhoea. I would starve her for at least 12-18 hours. He should be fine, though you may want to monitor for vomiting or diarrhea. Consider withholding food for the next 12-24 hours. If vomiting or diarrhea develop, fast him then feed a bland in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Transition slowly to the regular diet afterwards.

Bread is generally speaking ok, but can cause occasional diarrhoea. If that is the case, as a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.

I would fast him for 24 hours and let him digest the donuts he ate. He may develop dietary indiscretion, pancreatitis, etc. If he begins to vomit and become lethargic, then I would take him in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate treatments recommendations can be made. I would skip dinner tonight and limit water to sips. Feed normally tomorrow. If he ate raw bread dough he would need to go to the emergency room. Good luck!

You may see some gastrointestinal upset (vomiting and diarrhea) in the next few hours. If necessary, you can fast him for 6-12 hours then feed a bland diet in small, frequent amounts until symptoms resolve. Monitor for lethargy, loss of appetite, abdominal pain or GI upset that does not resolve. See your veterinarian for an exam and treatment if any of these symptoms develop.

If this happened recently, ie within the past 2 hours or so, you should take him to a vet for inducing vomiting. If this has been longer then you need to watch your dog for a tummy ache, diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, as he could get pancreatitis from the food he is not used to. Also the wrappers could cause trouble. Watch his feces, wrappers should show up as they pass through the intestinal canal. If he shows any signs of discomfort, please take him to a veterinarian or Pet ER.
