My dog ate fondant and vomited. Are they okay, or is a vet needed?

He could potentially have diarrhoea and vomiting episodes in the next hours. If there was chocolate in it a check up would be needed otherwise I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if you notice diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy or inappetence. It sounds like Aya was a naughty dog! My only concern was if it was chocolate cake. If she vomited up most of it, then it might not be a big problem. However, if there was a lot of chocolate, she should be taken to a veterinarian. If there was no chocolate she may have vomited simply from eating a whole piece of cake when she is just a tiny little thing. Dogs can also vomit from eating rich fatty human foods and causing pancreatitis. If the vomiting continues, I would recommend she be seen. I am assuming it was milk chocolate frosting - if so you might see vomiting and diarrhea, and it would be best to see a veterinarian to induce vomiting if it happened in the past couple of hours. If it has been longer you can probably monitor for any vomiting and diarrhea and see a veterinarian if they occur.

That was naughty of Rudy to eat the cupcake! The good news is that with his weight and the amount of cocoa powder he ate, there will be minimal to no reaction from it. There is no need to induce vomiting. There is a potential for an upset stomach, diarrhea, and agitation, and if you see any GI signs, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. Otherwise, Rudy should be fine :-)
