My dog ate fondant and vomited. Are they okay, or is a vet needed?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

I came home and my dogs had gotten into a bag of fondant. They vomited a couple times but otherwise have been fine. I only have them half the amount for dinner to avoid too large of a meal. They ate fine. Are drinking water. And no diarrhea. Should I still be concerned due to the vomiting

Since fondant is mostly just sugar and shortening they will likely be OK, however it is best to keep an eye on them for a bit. Any signs such as tender or painful abdomen, lethargy, continued vomiting, bloody vomit or diarrhea, etc can indicate an issue such as pancreatitis or severe GI upset which should be seen by a vet ASAP.
